it would own if someone
made a graal rts :o
like a mini game or something... or a whole server where people can 1v1, or up to 4 people can play. btw, RTS=real time strategy. |
Wasn't Hikaru doing something like this?
|
Too much effort to make an entire server for it. Too little reward to make it as an aspect of a larger server. -_-
See: Plantman in Future Improvement/New Races - I got one started years and years ago, and it went no-where... |

it would OWN so much if it was like starcraft or something. click on a player and you can move him to go own the other team.... :( |
I thought about having little Command & Conquer based games / quest pieces. Kind of "Control the armies to break the defenses then march in and slaughter everyone in the castle". You'd have to control all your armies to siege the castle. Once down, you regained your character form and you get to go in and weak havoc :D

Having the number of autonomous NPCs needed for the kind of thing you're talking about would probably create lag issues.
|
I have a system that's 70% finished, and it worked perfectly. No lag at all. However.. unless I get my old hard drive repaired, it will be forever lost.

Quickly, to the geek shop!!!

Not so many NPCs. You could do it with one very-complex NPC per player, or many simple NPCs per world; either each player's responsible for all NPCs under their control, or all NPCs except for the active ones use fairly simplistic idle scripts.
To do a Starcraft type server, you'd probably need to do something along the lines of every player controlling their entire army in a single NPC. For a visual aid, figure the actual NPC(w) has a gameboy icon and while it's active, it draws all these troops. Every time your troops open fire, it tells any gameboys it's linked to "We're shooting at I-5", and the other gameboys say "You sunk my battleship!" and draw the corresponding loss of their units. Not too terribly complex even, particularly if they aren't allowed to fire blindly and ask "Anyone in I-5 now? How about now? How about now? Now? How about now?" |
:o

Probably be better to handle all the 'troops' or whatnot in an array, and showani instead of an NPC for each one. After all, they are all managed as a group and not individuals, or at least what I've seen of RTS'(never played one).

it all depends on what type of gameplay they're going for. you can also set macros (ctrl+#) to go to a specific preselected group. |
Haw, we should make it for Game World. See if it grows its own server from there. :-D
