What attracted you to Graal?

I honestly don't remember how i got into Graal...i've just had a break for about 2 years and still wanted to return. I remember wanting to be on 24/7 when i had the feeling of power and authority on UN as LAT Chief...but now i think i just enjoy playing it? I co-own a server with my friend haze and we just enjoy it me thinks.
So what attracted you to it? and do you feel your now commited to a server, or your server, or your statistics? do you play for power kicks or do you just play for a bit of fun?
I've been reading over a few posts and it all looks SOOO VERRY negative on these forums, so i thought i'd create a thread with a very neutral attitude so you can post your positive/negative comments but comments that aren't aimed at any person in particular.
and erm, death to all.

The Zelda theme attracted me to it. The community held me around before p2p, and developing on it after p2p extended my stay.

if i did leave you'd have no friends left, so i stay for you

Ape2k1 01-25-2007 01:19 AM

there's definitley something in the community convincing you to stay

PrinceDark 01-25-2007 01:22 AM

The game doesn't suck that bad. It has its potential. The community population is what probably sucks.

yea. thats it basically, but the community is dying out. and i cant be bothered playing "AIM.exe with swords"

I found some kid playing it in the computer lab where I was working, stole the link off him way back when it was Zelda Online, lost the address, searched up Graal Online...
Got to liking the free Zelda 3 MMO, even with its bad level links and obvious copyright infringements...and especially the 0.05 second scripting, up from Starcraft's 2-3 second triggers...
Made a few levels to stretch the engine's limits and point out the copyrights (which evolved into the waterfall quest and newbie house)...fought tooth and nail to be allowed to fix things on the server, had to make myself LAT Admin before anyone'd let me...
Now, I dunno. Classic seems too oxy*****ic to hold my interest these days - you can't have a NPCServer-Compatible "Classic", it wouldn't be "Classic" that way...not even if you Could find a team of scripters willing to work for 2 years to make a system NPC that does EXACTLY what the old engine did without adding any Frills, like a health bar to replace hearts, day/night/season/weather, etc.
Mostly I'm just here because I haven't found a game that pays any More attention to what a guy like me thinks would make the game better. Granted, we'd all love to tell Stefan what to work on next, but it's no better anywhere else.

Devil 01-25-2007 03:32 AM

The Zelda style.

How fast that went down the crapper.

i searched "zelda online" awhile back and thought "whats this crap?"
i left graal, then realized i should give it a chance and now i love it =)

Crono 01-25-2007 07:40 AM

I was on some random flash games site in 2000.

I saw one that looked like Zelda: Link to the Past so I randomly clicked it. It said if I wanted to play with other players I had to download the DirectX version or something...

So I registered and bam, my Graal life started. Don't regret it at all. :D

Skrobo2 01-25-2007 08:28 AM

saw it on an mmo website and the description said something about being able to make your own house so i downloaded it and got hooked because of developing/friends

Galdor 01-25-2007 12:58 PM

a friend showed me it, he was in the mighty guild "Moss Knights" on classic! was my first online game so it was kinda cool I guess =O

Crow 01-25-2007 02:54 PM

The Zelda themed "New Atlantis". Not that one you see right now, its a little bit older, but its still called New Atlantis.

Twinny 01-25-2007 03:10 PM

Mate showed me one day. I went home, downloaded it and spent 2 hours trying to find the N-Pulse pond level on classic >_<. Then i found Ducati who incidently led me to the right pond ^^.

Got hooked by a few friends i met, scripting and some less legal activities. Left at p2p. Came back around September 2005 just to see who was here still and got hooked again >_<

MysticX2X 01-25-2007 03:45 PM

I thought there was a thread on this before but oh well.

What attracted me was the 2d look that reminded me of zelda.

hampy 01-25-2007 06:58 PM

If you think the game sucks then why dont you leave? =/

Well for me my brothers IRL friend was playing it at his house when my brother went round, my bro thought it was good so he came back and started playing it. He set up a p2p account and I started playing UN on his account (probably 3-4 years back) then after about 2 months I decided to make my own account, I quit a while back and here I am again, playing once more :p

cyan3 01-25-2007 07:02 PM

When i start I played it to see what it was like and i ended up playing it for 2 years.

hampy 01-25-2007 07:04 PM

I don't know whats so addictive about Graal but its really got me and I can't seem to leave :p

well when i say that it sucks, i mean i dont really seem to enjoy the actually gameplay, its the community and the control that i love. seems to be a constant struggle for hierarchy and i love it!! sorry to confuse pal

Stephen 01-25-2007 09:58 PM

What attracted me to Graal? Bjorn's bad-ass attitude, and biker jacket.

The illusion of potential. It might actually exist, but it's certainly the appearance of it that draws us. "Oh man, Graal could be a million times better if they just did ___" - "Well, okay, maybe next version they will..." - "Well, maybe next version..."

I know that was Classic's charm. Oh man, the GerudoDesert quest could be awesome, if only there was Something at the end of it...and they renamed Kagato to something not ripped directly from Tenchi Muyo...and probably renamed the desert something not ripped directly from Zelda...and explained what's up with the shadow demon guy...and the longhouse should probably have working links so you can get out once you're inside...hm, and probably over the tops of the doors instead of the entire wall near the door...and Ooh, secret exit, that's cool, but how was I supposed to guess the password was Phantasmagoria?...

Hawk 01-28-2007 02:01 AM

How it's so similar to Zelda. No one was able to do it like this ;)

zokemon 01-28-2007 02:06 AM

Friend showed me and forever placed me with "the curse".

Personal Jesus 01-28-2007 02:39 AM

The customization part of it.

It's not and hasn't been addictive for years.

Ha, accurate...I'd be on it by now if I really thought I could. Why do you think I'm so big on getting Template Servers for everyone if not because I want one too? :-D

Sure it has. You trying being a classic server Manager and still call it "not addicting".

WanDaMan 01-28-2007 02:37 PM

Player Killing. I'm not really bothered about anything else...

jonnyrocks2 01-28-2007 03:12 PM

Wow, missed this topic...Anyway...
Hm, what attracted me to graal...Alright, Story goes as follows:

Back in 1998, I was cruising the internet, chatting it up with my fan base...of two...namely Lord Krition ( As known when Bomy Moon came about ), and Padraig Norris...eventually we stumbled across Graal that year and became hooked, we sometimes had our own private server when the RC system was abound( Namely 1998/1999 on OOOLD Graal.) ...eventually we just played normally, and soon, when the P2P came around, seperated to seperate servers for a time, eventually, I hit up P2P, and joined Krit in Dustari on Bomy Moon, yada months pass, Krit/Padraig quit after Dustari got mauled...I kept playing for another year over at Kingdoms, quit for a year and a half, and came back, and here I am now, still going.

Rarely see Padraig anymore, but I see Krit on MSN all the time still. =p
