"No playerworld under any circumstances should save trial account data."
On my server I had planned to make bank accounts that were able for saving for trials, because I actually believe this would encourage them to upgrade.
I like new people, they remind me of how I was when I first joined Graal "Wow I've got 1000g" and I used to get PM's all the time when I was FAQing for Classic, just to tell me that they had "1000g". I think if trials were able to save their money, it would give them another reason to upgrade as all their hard work of cutting down numerous bushes, tediously mining those rocks and stealing from kills wouldn't just go to waste when they signed out, and they would have a funding for when they hit the big time. Obviously the bank account saving wouldn't be allowed to withdraw until they had upgraded; more like a funds account, but I think it would really help in steering new upgrades as you have no idea how excited people get over gralat. Of course, because of the playerworld rules I can't do this, but Graal is in some serious need of revising in terms as adding such features like this would not be detrimental to the amount of upgrades, infact it could well be the other way round. |
I like the idea of a bank account they can put money in, but can't take out until they upgrade.
If this is allowed, every server should do it. It would defiantly encourage people to upgrade. |
If that were implemented I think it should still be for a limited time period. Otherwise you'll have 2347 little trial account bank accounts sitting there for years untouched.

Very smart idea, I quite like it and think it should come into effect.

I agree.

So to solve the problem of excess funds not being used just script it so that after a reasonable period of time the funds transfer to nikomi946 =D. Nice idea though Rufus.

Interesting idea, indeed.
I approve! |

hear hear, the time for restricting newbies is past. Anything that makes sticking around Graal long enough to upgrade is a good thing, now that we no longer have a thousand some Trial Players trying to freeload.

Oh and after all, this is the "Future Improvements" section. |
It's not allowed.
We plan to change how Graal subscriptions work to be more trial/guest-friendly, but that will take some time. |
Hm.
Well, changing subscriptions "to be more trial/guest-friendly" will at least ensure that it's evenly distributed among all servers...even the haughty ones that would just as soon not have any newbies. :-P |

Aw, Stefan put the boots to it. =(

That's too bad, this was an excellent idea. One of the best for encouraging an upgrade that I've heard.
I suppose the only problem would be if there's chests on the server. The player could And if enough trials buy graal at once, it could mess up the economy a little. You know, they may wait to get an account until they have enough money for the most expensive item. |
Ah well, back to the drawing board.

One reason this idea wouldn't work is because if someone found a way to abuse something as a trial to get lots of free money, they could do so and if they get caught, big deal it was a trial account... but if they don't get caught, they could upgrade and have tons of $$$. But if they weren't trial to begin with, not only would they be less inclined to try to abuse a bug or hack, but it would be a lot easier to trace them.
It's a nice idea in theory... but I doubt it would get people to upgrade. Trial is just what it means... a trial. Not "well there's the exception that you can save all your monies in a bank". Trial accounts are only supposed to allow a person to test out the game and some servers... not play on it for months without paying while still earning money like everyone else. |

I'd say limit each PW to a set number of Save Points, variable based off the size of the server. A server with 9 quests gets 5 savepoints - not enough to easily Beat The Game and have done with, but enough to want the power to save anywhere. You put in your password (or whatever) from the end of quest 1, you Pop at the end of that quest (or the latest in the series of quests) with your flags set saying you've already done that one - on to the next. I made a newbie account and tried to play Classic. Even with its admittedly lacking quest-to-system ratio, I couldn't take it...having to reset at the newbie house Every Time, having to go through the pushblock maze Every Time...it's not condusive to "Wow this is a great game I should upgrade so I can play it all the way through", and hasn't been since the day of Kid Icarus and Castlevania I and ... |
