Faster graal

I have a very slow internet connection up at college, and I was wondering if the Login server could be made more simplistic, more text based, or a small menu or something. It takes me forever to log onto a server. The login server doesn't take long to open, but one it does, it takes forever for it to respond to me typing in a server name and hitting enter.
Edit:
RC is also slow too, and decompression errors shouldn't have to happen. There should be some kind of packet, or downloads folder, so it doesn't have to process everything at once.

Could it be your computer having trouble instead of the connection? What is the connection by the way?

KuJi 08-29-2006 08:13 PM

T1/T3 shared by the entire college probally ;o?

10 mbps ethernet.
I asked my roomate if his internet was slower here, and he agreed. We're both using Dells though, so who knows.

That what I use at school, but it's still insanely fast.

excaliber7388 08-30-2006 05:16 AM

:( Figures.
Yeah, 10mbps
It bites (not bytes, to lame to say)

Sp anyway, speeding it up, thoughts?
My internet isn't that slow (then again, I'm using firefox)

Edit:
I'm sure there's a lot of people without a fast connection, anyone know how I can get graal to run on my slower connection, because right now, the gmap and NPCs don't even load.

Skrobo2 08-31-2006 08:23 PM

My cable connection is 8mbs. The only time I ever lag is when it's hardware or software related. Defragment, clean the registry, clean out old files, scan for viruses/spyware/adware/malware, clear the prefetch (Win XP), turn off indexing for fast searches on your hard drive (Win XP), do various other speed tweaks, etc.

What does the fact that you're using Firefox have anything to do with it? Using Firefox over IE is a smart decision.

excaliber7388 08-31-2006 08:40 PM

I'm using some additions to firefox for additional speed. I never have too much lag on the internet, but it's terrible on graal
In fact, I can stream music, get emails, download stuff, all quickly.
Why would graal take forever to do anything?

Skrobo2 09-01-2006 02:46 AM

Ah, I see. You use Fasterfox? As for Graal, more than likely it's hardware lag. Upgrading to a better graphics card would probably give you a big increase in performance..

Graal is the only really slow program.
So slow, that today I was walking on era, and I sat in the unstick area. About a min later, the gmap loaded, and as it turns ou, they moved the unstick area a bit, I was on top of a building!

Is 10 Mbps the speed of the connection or the speed of your NIC/Router? Maybe checking to see if the cabling used is the problem? There could be an outside reason to why the connection is slow.

But for the most part, graal is the slowest. The connection is 10mbps (notwork connections, you can find it on your comp)
I've tested the cable at home, running at a faster speed, and it worked fine, it's not the computer or the cable.
Does anyone else use a connection of 10mbps? Have you had these problems?
I've cleared out spyware, defregged the hdd, tested the computer's speed offline. Everything is in check, except for some reason, Graal takes forever to do anything.

excaliber7388 09-07-2006 06:04 PM

I can't even get on DR sometimes, I type it in, and I have to press enter, and sometimes it does nothing, when I come back 10 mins later and hit enter again, I can go in. Something should be changed. Hopefully my connection won't be this slow for too much longer, but still, something should be done to make it load faster.

excaliber7388 09-18-2006 08:42 PM

Okay, played around w/ my computer, got it working good and fast.
But wait, graal still doesn't load.
I have some problem loading movies online, but a 10mbps connection shouldn't be this useless. I have a lot of changes to make with my server, and I can't because it takes 10 mins just to update an npc. Something needs to be done x_X

The computer you are running on and the connection are two totally seperate things. If you are experiencing problems with network lag, I suggest the problem is somewhere on the network between you and the Internet itself, since plenty of people simply don't have this problem. In that case I am not sure of a remedy. With the client you could try enabling or disabling UDP. RC I am not sure.

If you are experiencing graphical lag, do the normal routine things. Update your graphics drivers, check for any tasks that are eating CPU away, etc.

excaliber7388 09-18-2006 08:56 PM

It's a brand new computer, I've played with the udp packages, and I know it's most likely my network. But it'd be nice if there was something that made it easier to connect and play. Something.

If it's the network then there is not much that Cyberjoueurs can do about that. Maybe you are behind firewalls or such on your network which are slowing it down.
