Macintosh woes, this doesn't make sense

Ok, on my Powerbook G4 (1.5 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB HD), Graal4 (for Mac) ran, for the most part, very smoothly and nicely.

I have since upgraded to a MacBook with a 1.8 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 512MB RAM, 60 GB HD. All I get on every server is lag, the only way I don't lag is if I am in a room by myself.

What is wrong? Should I upgrade my ram or something? It doesn't make any sense :O

What KIND of lag? There are many things that would cause lag, and the lag appears different each time...

If you see the server jumpy... Players jumping everywhere, it's your internet connection. Depends: You on wireless? Ethernet? DSL? Broadband?...

If you walk slowly, or things take time to move... It's probably the CPU lag... But on a dual core processor, I highly doubt it...

If it lags only when there are a lot of light effects, than it's the graphics card that's the bottleneck. I doubt it's the graphics card; it has 256 MBs dedicated...

If it's when you have many players... It could be a lack of memory ( saving onto the swap section rather than onto the ram... Causes quite a bit of lag ).

^-^; Choose what kind of lag you want. There are different things to do for different types of lag.

I move extremely slow, so what you're saying it is is CPU lag, but I am pretty sure my upgraded computer can handle Graal, especially because my G4 processor could. I am on an ethernet connection. I am more slow when there are a lot of players in the level.

Ugh. I'm not a Mac person yet, although I'm going to be.

Fiddle with your display settings...? Maybe turn some options off if you can...?

warp2ukew 07-06-2006 05:56 PM

You'll see with a Mac your options decrease greatly when it comes to Graal. Soon I will be dual booting XP on a partition though.

STEFAN ANY SUGGESTIONS?! :D

Just from the sounds of it, I would think drivers are scewed over, or graal needs to be reinstalled on that harddrive. But then again, on linux (which is not mac) graal lags alot until you fix your video driver.

But then again I also wonder what people use MAC for, cuz I have never touched one, though I do know that Mac was trying to get OS10? into a linux kernel at one point, so they might be very similiar soon.

They are. Mac OS X has Darwin as their Kernel. The computer is pretty much set up like a Linux, but it was restructured for the Mac... So they are pretty much the same...

It's the CPU, you changed from a PowerPC to an Intel chip, I THINK the Intel versions of Mac emulate PowerPC programs, so that could be the problem.

Yes could be the problem that Graal is made for the Power PC Mac and the emulation is slow. Not sure if it can easily be solved other than us releasing a new version for Intel Mac.

Mac is planning on wiping out PowerPC completely by 2007... Which means... It would be a good idea. I don't think it would require that much effort as well.

Yes, please :D
