Weather

Hi.

Surprise! Kingdoms is about to receive a NEW WEATHER SYSTEM!

Well, soon, because I have finished it!

Though, before I release details about it with screenshots, I would like to know what others think should be added. Of course, there is rain...O_o. Though, what else would like to be seen in it? Oh, one thing, rain isn't the ONLY thing in it, there's like a lot, but I don't want to release details or screenshots till I feel like all the things are covered. If someone posts within this thread about what should be in it, I will tell whether or not it is included.

Edit: Oh, and if some moderator feels like this is in the wrong section of the Kingdoms forums, then I apologize.

Perhaps some gusty wind sfx for good ambience, we lack that in some aspects. I hope all of this comes with good sound effects. Heavy rain, tornadoes, thunderstorms(with flashes), day/night would be very great for more atmospheric effects. Way better than new pets, new food, and all the needless addons. Glad someone focused on something we needed, and followed through for once. Thank you for still caring about the GK players :)

Draenin 06-26-2006 09:43 AM

- Rain
- Snow
- Tornadoes
- Thunder and Lightning
- Heat waves (If you need help making gfx for that, I may be able to help.)

I think this is in the right section. I'm going to assume these affects are clientside?

AlaricoMontario 06-26-2006 04:38 PM

Anyway to have periodic tornado's and hurricanes =D

Jaquet 06-26-2006 06:00 PM

I think weather is a great idea, the only downfall to it is that it might lag the game a little bit more where the weather is taken place. Other than that I like it. (Liked the tornado when I saw it a while ago too)

Draenin 06-26-2006 11:23 PM

If the effects are clientside they won't, unless it's a bit too much for your video card to handle.

lordbosh 06-27-2006 02:05 AM

the fact that anything on this game makes a brand new pc lag is the result of bad coding. we know who to blame for that.

Draenin 06-27-2006 03:39 AM

Graal's an MMO. You're going to lag anyway because not all processes go on on your screen alone.

I think he's referring to light effects and the such causing clientside lag. And he is entirely right.

Draenin 06-27-2006 08:43 AM

I'm wondering which card Bosh is using, then. I rarely ever experience lag from lighting.

Jaquet 06-29-2006 07:25 AM

Im using an out of date 2001 gfx card :) ive been the king of lag ever since lighting effects were enabled all the time

Crono 06-29-2006 07:45 AM

I'm on a PCI Radeon 7500LE.

I get a wooping 1fps maybe less on Doom 3 and have a hard time running Need for Speed Underground. I experience little "lag" with light effects.

ApothiX 06-29-2006 05:53 PM

I'm running 2.2 GHz Athlon64 3400+ Processor, nVidia GeForce 6150 LE (256 MB), 512 MB RAM, and I sometimes experience 'lag' when there are a lot of lights in the level x_x It's probaby the RAM, though.

lordbosh 06-29-2006 09:20 PM

3ghz pentium D processor, nVidia Geforce 7800 GTX video card, 1gb ram. And i get lag with lights on, bad coding? much.

What kind of ram do you have? The size is not everything.
Same with the processor.

Jaquet 06-30-2006 05:11 AM

850 mhz, 64 mb ram intel chipset card with 318 mb of ddr ram

cutelilmurderer 06-30-2006 06:08 AM

I have 3.2ghz p4, 4gb ddr400 pc3200 ram, 256mb nvidia 6600, and Kingdoms still lags. Backround processes have a lot to do with the lag, but also your connection. Even though I have a good connection I can't figure out why I could run FEAR at 34fps (all settings to full) and Oblivion (15-20fps on full) but Graal gives me a lagstorm! Your computers registry also heavily affects the performance of your entire system.

Raeiphon 06-30-2006 08:15 AM

It better rain alot somewhere. And rain doesnt involve drawing polygon's across the screen every 4 seconds.

Check you if your driver is actual. Also the DirectX.
I have also a dual core processor and a nVidia Geforce 6700 running without any problems.

My friend could run FEAR on his computer and he told me it takes a really good computer to run that game and yet graal lags on his computer too. So i would have to agree I think the lag problem is on graal's side and not our computers. It just doesnt make sense

Draenin 06-30-2006 10:53 PM

For weather, it isn't. However, particles corrently make my computer lock up frequently, so the only work I may be able to do is development work, and possibly a litte bit of my leadership on the side, but the strain will be greater until I get these issues resolved.

AlaricoMontario 06-30-2006 11:44 PM

The fact is if my computer can run World of Warcraft, which has much better graphics, more in-depth game mechanics, and higher quality effects without putting the slightest hint of strain on my computer (except in Ironforge... darn those dwarves),

then Graal, a game with one of the crappiest graphics, shallowest game mechanics, and effects I could make on MSPaint, should run perfectly fine.

And that's the point I think we're trying to get across to the staff. Though apparently we can't say that without taking up a support ticket.

Malinko 07-10-2006 05:48 AM

Draenin is awesome.

Draenin 07-10-2006 06:25 AM

Pff. Since when?

Malinko 07-10-2006 05:17 PM

You all can thank Draenin, since he's so badass that he's going to help me finish some awesome new Kingdoms stuff.

Raeiphon 07-10-2006 06:10 PM

Only because you lack the ability to finish it yourself.

Draenin'll only bleed all over it anyway.

Draenin 07-10-2006 06:31 PM

Hey, at least it won't be my blood. ;]

Devotchkas 07-10-2006 08:39 PM

put tsunami's in that destroy boats

myth-simba 07-10-2006 09:20 PM

oh no..

if the tornadoes destroy ships i'd be getting paid for free,
sit in the house and let the weather terrorise the seas.

There should be a spell, if u get caught in tornado u get thrown to a random part of the game, like on top of igloo mountain or something, u ge to see your character fly through the air, via a shadow moving across the ground wen destination reached u fall from sky.

Draenin 07-10-2006 09:25 PM

Tornadoes don't move over water.

MasterNuke 07-10-2006 09:33 PM

IS THIS GETTING PUT IN OR NOT?

Jaquet 07-11-2006 09:06 AM

Make hurricanes! :o

When they hit water they just get a different name. One being Waterspout.

AlaricoMontario 07-11-2006 05:37 PM

Hurricane: Tornado on steroids, over water.

Zxion 07-11-2006 11:20 PM

Actually, Sage was right, a tornado is then called a waterspout.

Malinko 07-15-2006 01:33 AM

You know...not a lot of people develop for Kingdoms, besides those who develop for individual Kingdoms.

In addition, it's hard to have things approved, which takes some time. Remember, I work for someone, meaning, I have to have it in their direction rather than the direction I or others wish to have it.

Though, all these suggestions, most, I would state 95% of them are in it.

Of course, there might be a few other things added, such as waves with animated water, perhaps. Would be nice, right?

Also, in addition to weather, there are "new" maps being created. Some people know which maps; I think I even created a thread about these new maps, but this also takes some time since it's quite large, and having a lot of new things added. Items, monsters, quests, etc.

So be patient!

Oh, and thank Draenin because he's doing a lot more than some think!

AlaricoMontario 07-15-2006 02:40 AM

Oh, and since a certain Germanic staffer failed to mention in his little 'server news' thread,

Brigid followers need to thank Grirahan for their shiney new shields.

ReBorn_Spirit 07-15-2006 03:12 AM

I hope to see this Weather soon, it should be fun addition to GK.

Actually, Brigid followers need to thank Eldritch, (Who made the Shield) Gririhan (Who presented it to Bjorn) and Bjorn. (Who uploaded it.)

AlaricoMontario 07-15-2006 04:30 AM

Bjorn added the shiney, I believe.
