IP Searching

There should be a way to do a search on IP addresses in RC.

Ex.
/findip #.#.#.#
would give a list of accounts with that IP address as the last IP.

/findip #.#.#.*
would give a list of accounts with that IP range matching the last IP.

and so on.

This would probably be useful in recognizing possible account theft and possible impersonation, as well as a quick way to tell if a single IP is spamming your server with several trial accounts online at once.

could easilly cain and abel an IP

I like such a command, it's easy to find out what person with what IP has been on your account (if you are hacked or w/e it may be)

Skyld 05-29-2006 09:25 AM

It already exists in ADCP for high admins. It would be too database intensive to put in RC for everyone to use, I think.

Lol, if Stefan's a realy good programmer he can make such things easy.. it could be an option for a person with the right: Change Staff Accounts, since they can search quite a lot in account database already. It's easy to add an IP: option I purpose?

Like I said, it would likely be too database intensive to allow anyone to do it. There are probably very little ways to get around that.

contiga 05-29-2006 02:14 PM

Mhh, so then lets go for it, for people with that one right only! hehe It's the rarest right that is given out on servers, so very little ammount of the servers their staff has that right.

Snakeandy7 05-29-2006 03:34 PM

we could do our own if stefan made ''player.ip'' a function.

uhhh.. actually, it would probably not be too intensive if there was a hash (especially with collisions being what you're looking for in a sense). Worst scenario is that stefan would have to upgrade the amount of memory he has on the server.

I thought all Linux RemoteControl users could do it?

Other than that, the AdminPanel does allow the "/global find" right be given to accounts that are right based. I guess if someone decided, it could be added to Managers of worlds. Vulcan doesn't have an admin level, though he can do it, so.

If I were Stefan, I would not want people freely scanning my database of thousands of accounts to check IPs.

Not that I know of.

The global rights work differently. Anyway, managers (of classic/hosted worlds) only perhaps but I wouldn't let others.

I agree, this would help i suppose.

The only way to make this less intensive is to have very high quality database servers, and I can't see that being feasible so people can check IPs ;)

Yep

Also, being able to disable players with the same IP from hurting each other would be a positive improvement, though not foolproof, to laming kills and spar rating.

In older versions of Graal accounts with the same IP couldn't take spar rating from each other. This was roughly back in 2001-2002. I remember people complaining about people doing it on many servers and after a client update it stopped.

Yep, and Classic has custom damage so I could very easily implement it. Kindof like sharing a guild tag (although Classic allows guild members to spar each other with their guild tags on outside of GC levels).
