Modem Tappers.

It was bound to happen eventually. It started when Zone re-opened; most of its new players were from Era, during its reset slump. But it has finally surfaced: Those God-Forsaken people that Era has shoved out: Modem Tappers.

Some of you may not know what they are; I am here to tell you. They turn off their modem so that they appear in one spot Serverside; however, on Clientside, they are actually shooting and moving in all directions. When they switch their modem back on, all you see is a flurry of bullets, and then you're dead.

It's relatively new to the server, but already has its abusers. Give all current ETs a ban hammer and fix.

theHAWKER 04-14-2006 04:25 PM

a beter idea is if the event teams just keep there event team on every second because if the glichers/hakers see the events team the'll be to scard to even do the pipe/jetpack glich!!!!

someonesomewhere 04-14-2006 07:57 PM

Er, no, Dark has said that people glitch and hack in front of him all the time, and if you play Zone at all, you'd know he was an ET. So ETs really don't frighten anyone.

SayianOozaru 04-14-2006 08:36 PM

well cause vulcans the only one with rights...and he's always busy...so us 'staff' gotta try to scare the people into stopping...and it doesn't always work...

Huwajux 04-14-2006 09:28 PM

Vulcan has no D/C rights.

someonesomewhere 04-15-2006 12:26 AM

Stefan is the only person on Zone who does have banning rights, then?

Because he's almost never on.

Nor ban rights, but I normally have a PWA or someone else help me with a ban if it's ever needed so it's not that big of a deal.

As for the idea of giving ETs some sort of jailing rights or something to punish players I think this would be a good idea. I'll try to finish a jail sometime this weekend so we wont have as many problems.

Huwajux 04-15-2006 02:02 PM

You don't want to see my jail. :(

Why? Make a Jail so that if you get sent there, people can lame you until your sentence is up. I'd like that :]

MrsMastermind 04-15-2006 07:31 PM

That would be funny. =D

That kind of modem tapping can be detected (shooting too many bullets at once / in short time) and the bullets automatically be destroyed on server-side so that they don't hurt

someonesomewhere 04-15-2006 07:50 PM

Oh. Well that's cool. But sometimes the person just lags too much and it's essentially the same as modem tapping for 3 seconds. It's a real pain when they use a chaingun and that happens -_-

Why not make a nice little anti-modem tapping system. :3

MrsMastermind 04-15-2006 10:48 PM

I'll get right on that!

Zone has a tick refresh of approximately .05 of a second, as does the majority of the online games in the world.

Unless you could terminate your connection, and redial it in .05 of a second, then you'd be physically unable to modem tap. ADSL has a connection time of 1.89 seconds, DSL has a connection time of .94 seconds. Nothing could even come close to modem tapping, unless they're slowing down the client in some form (more or less possible) but graal nearly detects everything availible for that.

Simply: You cant modem tap. The people who do appear to either use 56k dialup and are from some 3rd world country with developing internet facilities. A 3200+ latency will replicate this feature in many games.

someonesomewhere 04-16-2006 11:48 PM

I understand most of that. But the thing is, the only things that make Zone lag are the flamethrower, a large amount of explosions(Say, 3+ People mortaring, *cough* Sayian, Allen, Jo *cough*), and a massive amount of people dying at the same time (8+). So it's not that bad to use dial-up on Zone, or maybe I'm wrong. I haven't had dial-up in a while.

However, People still do it. Not with the proficiency of the Era modem tappers, but they still do it.

Flamethrower (completely useless), Chaingun (Fun but laggy), and gasgrenade's are the only weapons that make me lag. What lags me mostly is large messages that people type just to lag people around them.
Example: @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ Damn, that was fun
