I'd like to get some opinions on this. I want to know if yall think the shading is ok or needs some more work.

Curt1zzle 03-30-2006 11:54 PM

What shading?

Lord Sephiroth 03-31-2006 01:14 AM

Either its too dark or the contrast on the white background makes it seem too dark but I can't see any shading without putting it in Paint and zooming in and stuff.

Sulukra 03-31-2006 01:21 AM

Well, I can see some shading, but the leaves should be more seperated rather then one huge clump.

lancelot9 03-31-2006 01:46 AM

Yeah.. and i dont like the idea of the wood, looks like your hiding mistakes.
Also add more tints and shades, maybe add a back leaf to.

Skrobo2 03-31-2006 02:38 AM

ok I'll work on it more

Edit:At first I had made it a lot darker and it looked like this.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ree-indoor.png

But, after asking a friend what she thought, she said the leaves looked too dark. So, I made chages to what I previously posted. So does the the one I posted before or this one look better to you?

lancelot9 03-31-2006 04:00 AM

its better.. still laking depth tho, try using a few more colors, make your lights lighter and darks a bit darker as well

CidNight1142 03-31-2006 04:30 AM

Yeah, as lancelot said, more contrast.

Skrobo2 03-31-2006 04:34 AM

kk
this one has given me hell because ive changed it so much all my colors blended
the trunk actually looked round until i started taking the airbrush to it

Zero Hour 03-31-2006 06:20 AM

I'd just abandon ship on this one.

Elk 03-31-2006 09:33 AM

What's that?

Skrobo2 03-31-2006 07:49 PM

im thinking about using the same shape and redoing all the coloring and shading

Go for it. Looking forward to seeing the results.

GoZelda 03-31-2006 09:48 PM

More contrast on the leaves.

Crono 03-31-2006 10:17 PM

More contrast on leaves please.

Elk 03-31-2006 10:54 PM

I ask again now. What's that?

Crono 04-01-2006 12:12 AM

Elk you're seriously one of the most un-productive people on the GFX forums. You never give people proper criticism and make the most useless posts that don't help. It's obviously a tree because THE THREAD TITLE SAYS IT IS.

Stop being such an ass and atleast give some help.

Skrobo2 04-01-2006 01:02 AM

OK, I redid the color and shading on the leaves and went back and lightened up the leaves and the trunk.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ee-indoor2.png

Tell me what yall think. And thanks for the help and criticism. :p

CidNight1142 04-01-2006 04:38 AM

Looks better and more defined but now its a bit pillowshaded.

Blitz_Hunter 04-01-2006 04:42 AM

What about Shangri-La? :(.

Skrobo2 04-01-2006 12:05 PM

The staff quit and no one will apply. There's only a few people that still come on like me, Madrox, and Moondeath. :(

I agree. I went hog wild on it with the airbrush. -_-
See, I use a gaming monitor and I've had the ultra bright mode on so to me it looked lighter than it really was. Then when I realized that was my problem, I had to go back and fix it the best I could. :p I could have done a better job, but I was trying to do other things too. Anyways enough with excuses, it could still use work.

Good job though, probably better than I could do.

I'm pretty sure that with most monitors you can say profiles for specific settings. You should have another for art :)

lancelot9 04-01-2006 07:11 PM

I think ya squint because theres still not much contrast to the leaves... Its better, but the shades are too much alike, maybe add more layers of color. make things pop out.

Well, it has a button to switch between the ultra bright mode and the normal mode. Once I realized why it looked so bright for me, I turned off the ultra bright. But then I had to go back and try to fix it. :p I do use dual monitors and sometimes I use the normal 17", but mostly I use my big 20" since it's my main monitor.

Feel free to ship one to me, free of charge :)

Lol. The only problem is the big 20" messes up when it gets cold, which is why I decided to use dual monitors. I wish I could get my LCD from Jim's house. :( But, he passed away and I can't get any of my things out of his house.

Elk 04-01-2006 09:44 PM

i love my 21" monitor =)!
i can do big pixels on it!

I've got a 17" or 19" CRT. I wouldn't mind getting a nice 21" LCD... but I don't have money for that stuff at the moment :[

CidNight1142 04-01-2006 10:36 PM

ive got a 12.5" laptop. I hate myself.

Skrobo2 04-01-2006 11:00 PM

I tried seeing if I could make it look less flat.

Well, that's a pretty small laptop. So for portability's sake it's pretty nice :)

Very simple fix to give it more depth.

Consider the range of tones you're currently using. The best way to do this is to put "desaturate" the image and check your color pallette. You'll probably see you're mosting using greys, and very few highlights/blacks.

Take your dark tones and now add some definition below the leafs. There's a way to do this naturally, but you've dont it in such a way that you would have to entirely remake it so just do this for now.

You may also want to consider highlights and sharper color contrast between the pot and the little fence around it.

Skrobo2 04-02-2006 12:23 AM

Ok. I'll work on it some more when I get some time.
