Legalities!

I know how much stefan loves legalities and all, Kingdoms has a few problems that should have been stated years ago.
Problems like the quests and their npc names, for example "Decard Cain", obviously a rip from the Diablo game, and "Little Red Riding Hood", ok if you don't know where this is from ask your parents to read to you, lol.

I don't recall any others off-hand, but ya these should atleast be renamed with proper names that wouldn't cause any legal problems.

CidNight1142 03-21-2006 11:27 PM

I really really doubt that using "Little Red Riding Hood" has to be cleared with someone legally. I don't play diablo, so not sure about the other one.

Geovanie Legend 03-21-2006 11:40 PM

Oh trust me it's from Diablo 1 and 2, lol
Decard Cain, Mr I know everything about anything but make you do everything... that's him!

I sincerely doubt Blizzard really cares - but I guess it's a handy informtion anyways.

And since we're talking about Blizzard, I hope they close out that game's servers. :]

I was merely pointing it out, and if it is public there's no way it's been public that long...
Btw, do you just enjoy following me around like a little lost puppy Googi? rofl

Damix2 03-22-2006 03:33 AM

I doubt games copyright every name they use

Admins 03-22-2006 04:15 AM

Where do those names appear in Graal?

My existence pervades all active non-development forums.

Decard Kain, I believe, is one of the characters who follows you in the gold key quest. Same with Little Red Riding Hood. Might want to change the spelling a little, to Decarde Kain or something, hehe.

The spelling is changed. In Diablo it was 'Deckard Kain', here it is 'Decard Cain', I believe.

I was just going to say that also.

As for Red, I highly doubt there is any issue there.

New names wouldn't be bad. There are thousand possible names without reference to existing games, fairy-tales and such.
Red riding hood can be renamed to Rita Reddich or Rosa Redhead.

dNeonb 03-22-2006 07:20 PM

Will the producer from Diablo accuse me if I name my kid Decard Cain?
Haha... This is absurd.
A name of a person is not a name of a game or product you can set this nice (c) infront of..

Unless you're Nintendo, and you're creating a game like Pokemon (TM), with loveable and marketable characters like Pikachu (C) and Charmander (C).

I couldn't believe it when the manual had the (C) after the Pokemon names. That was just ridiculous.

Geovanie Legend 03-22-2006 08:55 PM

Tags might not be a bad idea either since sometimes npc's get stuck near each other on the same island, so tags like (Cousin) or (Archeologist) would be good, plus then when they are found on accident the player would know where to take them without having to make multiple trips from where they are, to the EBomboria Pub, then to where the npc belongs.

Also a ton of companies copyright their characters these days, if they make a Diablo 3 I wouldn't be amazed at all the Decard Kain was in it with a nice little © after his name, haha

"Hello my friend, stay a while and listen!©"
There I just put a copyright on his most famous phrase, hahahaha.

Why would you want new names? Having names that play on existing names gives a humorous aspect to the quest.

VulcanP2P 03-23-2006 04:42 PM

The Deccard Cain rap is funny. :D That's about all I have to say about him. heh.
