We need you!

I'm aware that Tom already posted a thread, but his didn't have any informations or screenshots of the server, so I hope nobody minds me posting this new thread.

Our server, Varandel, is in dire need of level makers and gani makers. Our current staff list is over-run with graphic designers, including Tom, Jer, and Lady Bassett Huntress, all of whom are overly-exceptional in their fields. The problem is that our scripts and graphics are being developed at a phenomenal rate, while our levels simply aren't being worked on. Some parts of scripting are also being limited by the lack of required ganis. That's why we need you.

Varandel is an RPG server, much like Graal Kingdoms or Maloria, which focuses on the gaming aspect rather than the roleplaying aspect. Our MUD library allows us to quickly and easily add game content or update existing game content, which leaves us no excuse to provide players with a constant stream of updates.
We plan on incorporating a 'macro' system, which allows players to assign various commands to a single hotkey.
Another fun aspect of Varandel is our leveling system. It's not very hard to attain the maximum level, but not very hard either. Our system only allows players to reach level 50, and it doesn't require extremely large amounts of time to acquire. This allows new players to easily catch up to older players in terms of power, so they won't be discouraged. Nobody likes trying to catch up to someone, then finding that they've advanced even further.
Along with our leveling system comes our unique 'class' system. When a player levels up they can allocate a point to one of three basic classes, Fighter, Caster, or Scout. Each class raises the player's statistics by a static number and unlocks new abilities. Players can mix and match classes as they please, as well as unlocking new classes by attaining certain levels of different classes. For example, a player who places 10 points into Scout will unlock the 'Ranger' and 'Thief' classes. Along with this is the ability to reset your character's experience points and class levels, incase you aren't happy with your allocations.

If you'd like to check out or inquire about the server, feel free to log on. The server is currently named 'Bravo Debug' until we get a name change.

Thanks for reading my wall of text, and I hope you'll consider joining us.

You get one tooth covered for 72 hours of work.

No optical? Pssh.

The rp system seems to be really nice.

Are you goin to use a special tileset or just classic/normal tileset?

Tom 01-23-2006 01:58 PM

The classic tileset, just one parts edited, such as tile errors and most tiles just generally improved, but no major shape changing.

Also, the graphics seen in the screenshots are not complete yet, just the scritping side by Yen :) I still need to finish the gfx for all of them.

You have all those great GFX artists and you are using the classic tileset? :frown:

You should re-arrange the tileset and turn it into a tileset with at tiletype of 1. That would be hot.

How do you manage that paradox?

hmm .. i wonder how many other servers are also stealing a lot of my thunder for the basis of what i have already planned out last year and before that for the Argos rp system ... but i got a few suprises planned that i have not seen anyone else do yet.

Good luck with your server.

Tom 01-23-2006 06:07 PM

This is actually a server i planned when i got my chance to own Providence, and since then ive just added stuff to the list and plans :P

And, im thinking of maybe making the tileset more uber, just wondering if we can afford to dedicate a graphics person to the tileset. But, mabeh :D

Still need lats :o Pretty small overworld, but i want to hopefully get some nice ships guilds can use alot.

Yen 01-23-2006 09:53 PM

I'm sure we'd have no objection to a new tileset, however icons, monsters, and so on are higher up on our priority list.

We haven't actually implemented EXP yet, but we'll probably use a base 100 system.
