A Big Let Down...

After first hearing about the cloaks i was thinking something along the lines of the stats involving; ac+2 or speed+1 dex+1 or str+2 or something along those lines >_< instead we got these crapy stats put on the cloaks(mine is resist cold +15...)...someone used 3 event coins (60 dias+) just for a charm+1...most people can get up to 30 cha...Anyway these cloaks were a big let down...maybe Staff was being rushed or maybe they just really didn't think about the stats...anyway i spent a good 2-3 hrs getting all the miterials, and it turned out to be pretty ***...i really just wasted alot of dias and time on getting these cloaks :\

Myukoi 01-16-2006 01:09 AM

:( yup and im not just hatin cuz i didnt get any, i got all the materials but i sold most cause i didnt want the ****ty things.. just got silver star cloak because i need anything glamorous/fabulous.. but in the end i was really mad. i spent 16 hours straight on graal and wasted so many dias. my life savings, actually. :) got em all back by selling the jewels i got for free though haha whatever more hours for me i guess

im pissed that its not temporary

ugh

Damix2 01-16-2006 01:12 AM

As said they are for looks first, stats second.

There is no reason for them to have godly stats. They are cloaks, they are meant to be just a little addition. People should stop complaining because they don't have an easy way to get stats. You work for them and you will get them. Its as easy as that.

StrykerTFFD 01-16-2006 01:18 AM

Basicly what's happening is in the beginning items were made overpowered and now staff are afraid to release anything worth over a diamond. Kind of sad really. They've dug a hole of unbalanced gaming and are trying to fill it back up with disappointment. Yeah...I think I like that analogy...

You seem to forget that most people care about stats rather than looks, or if it came down to it they just glitch looks. Heck, nobody wears the Platemail of Power because its teal(and rather ugly). The Cloak of Minor Protection is by far superior and it may be a dark puke green, but people will still wear it, or glitch it as many people have already done.

Looks you say? they don't even look all that great...wow they have 2 different sprites for the front and back sides of the player, then they have the first sprite mirrored...no one asked for them to have 'godly' stats, but when you spend ALOT of time and dias/plat on making them, you should get something worth while out of it...i coulda went and spent 20 dias or so and alch'd a CoMP(cloak of minor protection) and gotten a better deal, and that woulda taken an hour tops...i guess staff didn't realize i coulda went and bought a 168 plat ring that gave the same ****in stats...this is really pissin' me off x_x

CidNight1142 01-16-2006 01:48 AM

Lord, people complain alot. Its new content, and it opens tons of opportunity for new ideas, items, events, event items, etc. It was never even really implied that this was going to be a temporary shop, so I don't know why everyone ran out and spent dozens of diamonds getting every single ingredient before the release of the shop. I got everything I needed besides the evil dievel heart and ECs in a few level 2-4 maps. Oh well, I'll wait until I chance upon those items to get the other cloaks. Relax, enjoy the new material, and look forward to cool stuff in the future.

Darklux 01-16-2006 01:49 AM

Be happy that there is a nice addition to player design, i think that allows much more induavility.

The stats... ok...

but ac+1? you need a goldkey for comp, that wouldnt be fair... but speed+1 or something wouldve been ok i think x-x

Goldkey for CoMP : 20 Dias

3 Event Coins for Gold Cloak: 60 Dias

Making a gold cloak out of event coins you've been saving for months, only to instantly regret it?: Priceless.

Thats right, but i seen and heard enough people who love the way it looks and even because of that think they didnt waste their money.
You have to decide it for you, but maybe you just couldve waited with alching your coins before someone else had done it - nothing else is responsible for that than your impatience and your wrong hopes.

Well, I'm sorry that I expected something that requires more effort and cost to produce would be more useful than something that can be made much easier.

SayianOozaru 01-16-2006 02:07 AM

no if gk staff were a little more helpful, most of these insidents wouldn't of occured...staff wouldn't tell the stats of the items, or where to find wizards, where to find the shop at first, etc....gk staff needs to learn to lightin up and help the players out instead of saying 'find it youself'...i got pretty pissed when bjorn said that...

Admins 01-16-2006 02:16 AM

Those cloaks change the look of the player, which is good for roleplaying, and are also adding stats since they don't replace any other armour item, and as that they are powerful. Also we might want to release more cloak items, we can't already make the basic cloaks very powerful. Originally the shop cloaks were meant to have no stats, but we added some special things to not make useless in terms of powering your character. Sorry if you have expected them to be better.
We will soon give out the black, white, green and purple cloaks in events. Also we will try to fix the glitch where you can use the look of one item but use the stats of another item.

Then may I suggest fixing(and yes, I use the term fixing) the graphics of the more commonly used items? They're terrible. Well, I shouldn't say terrible, that's rude, but they could be better.

:\ but like i said...any player could have went out and bought a ring for 168 plat and got the same stats...so they still are pretty much useless...and the first 2 cloaks that were here for a long time were Cloak of Minor Protection = ac+1 (or 2?) and the other one Cloak of Major Protection = ac +4 or something like that...that's why i was expecting some kind of good stats on the cloaks...and those are a lot easier to get/make than the new cloaks :\

You can't make a cloak of major protection.

This an easy choice for people to make. I'd rather have posion resist then AC. If you'd rather have AC then you can use the CoMP, have fun.

SayianOozaru 01-16-2006 03:07 AM

then what's the blue cloak called? (sry thought it was cloak of major protection x.x)

Give examples, I don't think I would mind updating them :)

StrykerTFFD 01-16-2006 03:22 AM

Examples? Okay.
Time and time again I've brought up the Platemail of Power. Its teal color clashes with all other armors and items. The red thing on the Full Helmet(although realistic) is very funky looking. It's off in some way.

I agree, and recently suggested some E-leet alternatives on GK Debug. Yes, I did make those graphics, but I can promise you they're quite E-leet.

At first I thought it was pretty... odd looking. But now I like it, so I have to disagree :P

OasaTor_PK 01-16-2006 03:57 AM

I love the Full Helmet graphics (old) Its so sweet looking. The cloak needs a smoother animation, and thats all. The graphics are fine.

CidNight1142 01-16-2006 04:07 AM

old gfx fhom is awesome, dont change it. (Theyll probably just eliminate the old gfx and make them all new anyways = ( )
<---check out the 1337ness!

GryffonDurime 01-16-2006 05:00 AM

I hate it when people claim that an item will be better for roleplaying. Roleplaying transcends sprites, it is the very essence of roleplaying to look beyond the game's mechanics and into it's mythos. ><

nullify 01-16-2006 12:09 PM

I really love how everyone begs for new stuff, and then when it comes out they complain about it.

lordbosh 01-16-2006 12:54 PM

I have no problems with the cloaks. However I've heard it costs 3 Event Coins to create one, that seems a bit too expensive for a new player who wants to have a nice looking cloak. Maybe reducing it to one coin would be more realisitic. I am also thrown off at the sorcerer's cloak having resist cold+15 instead of resist magic+15. But overall I like them. A good addition to our game.

Emily_Cruddas 01-16-2006 12:54 PM

I agree with null, considering the difficulty of the monsters the items stefan makes available for us now are more than enough to deal with those monsters, but folks always want ways to get even more power somehow and when a new items is said to be added a few folks get ideas of it having incredible stats to make themselves even stronger.....and it's just not needed right now, you can get enough stats from the items you alchemy and the weapons you prepare.

I always wonder if stefan could have planned ahead and made some things limited, such as PMoP or mith, not very hard to make if you can take on the monsters you need parts from and know how to get everything, but to have a level or skill limit would have been a nice idea to have things more balanced, so you don't have a level 20 person running around with a FID prepared right and about seven +12 items making him pretty much invincible as he attacks anyone he wants, as many would agree on, this IS seen as an RP type server? Most of the really dedicated RPers really want things to get better and asking for more stats on some item just because you wasted so much on it like a bozo doesn't make things better.

Now the only thing left is for folks to either agree with something here or pick my post apart like so many others and counter whatever i left here however you see fit. ^^

nullify 01-16-2006 01:53 PM

I vote for level-limited items. That would improve the drive for leveling up and lessen the problem of overpowered players.

Raeiphon 01-16-2006 02:55 PM

They're also another 3 frame, non-physed item.

The cloaks flap all the time, which I find isnt very realistic, considering they do it when you're indoors, or unless every house in GK has belkin air conditioning installed..

Even buff the capes up to 6 or 4 frame, they'd look alot better. Hell, 12 frame would look stupid, they'd be better animated than the players would.. If I was any good at pixelart/animation i'd fix this for you, but my artistic talents are elsewhere.

Malinko 01-16-2006 03:55 PM

I don't think much players are complaining, but just wanting to have nice items. :)

Anyways, from what I know, cloaks were added for looks, as someone previously mentioned. In addition, Stefan and the Kingdoms team decided on having outfits be customized. From what I understand of this, each item will now be looking visible on players. :)

I have to disagree with this. All that will do will make lvl 110s even more ridiculously powerful. They're already overlords, why make them gods?

People are not complaining, rather we're being realistic about the cost of items that are just for looks. 3 Event Coins to look pretty is not a reasonable price.

And complaints are not bad when they're justified. The capes are nice, but overpriced instead of overpowered. They got the stats right, price wrong. Guess we can be thankful for that atleast. ^^

CidNight1142 01-16-2006 07:50 PM

The cloaks are really quite reasonable in price - excluding the gold. The red cloak is tough because of the evil dievel heart, but I think one of them should be tougher then the others. I for one got the blue, silver, and brown cloaks in about 2 1/2 hours of work, thats pretty reasonable. The gold cloak-very overpriced. Someone suggested this before, make it one EC and it will make it much closer to realistic, and probably only a slight bit more valuable then the red.

Craigus 01-16-2006 08:05 PM

Just get someone with the red yarn recipe to make it for you.

Yeah but I have a hunch that future alch recipes will be using the different yarns, so its certainly beneficial to know the formulas now.

BLOODY-SWORD 01-23-2006 12:27 AM

cloaks are like clothes, that you can equip and unequip, or atleast were supposed to be, nobody complains about the faxt that clothes/bodies dont add stats... well then why complain that cloaks dont add good stats, it's just looks, and these are the first clokas, later people will make new cloaks and those will probably have stats, remember when the very first armor was released? how awesome it was even if... nothing special? well same thing with this, it will get better stats over time probably

Simple people complain because comp has omg ac+1 which adds up to ac+13((btw lol @ all deleted posts)) But I agree with you The yare JUST gfx, if you care so bad about stats use comp when dueling and other cloaks to look nice, is that SOO hard?

I'm curious as to why all of the levels are windy enough to allow the cloaks to move, even when the player stands idle.

you don't have to find rare/hard to find items to make your clothes, now do you...if they were supposed to just be cloth then why make them craftable and not pickable like clothes are? x_x
