RC+Ban+Ban message

Is it possible that you can ban somebody, but not add a ban message because of RC restrictions?

Yen 01-07-2006 11:24 PM

O-o
I don't understand.

But if you're asking if you need a ban message, you don't.
If you're banned with no message, you just get a disconnected message when you try to log on.

GoZelda 01-07-2006 11:35 PM

You have, say, a level 2 RC.
You ban someone, but you can't add a ban message because of some kind of restriction.
Possible, yes or no?

Yen 01-07-2006 11:38 PM

Possible to be able to ban, but not add a message, no. o-o
If you can ban, you can add a message.

You can add a message in the ban window on RC, but that message is not visible for the banned person. I guess they talking about a message that the person reveive after being banned.

No. The only way there isn't a ban message is if someone omits the ban message when banning.

The ban message is visible to the person being banned.. that's the point of it. The only time the ban message wouldn't be visible would be if the person is IP banned.

Hm. This might not seem totally related but it is: what is the punishment for staff lying about his RC right? Staff of 'official' servers like Zone and GC of course.

I was wondering about this too. I informed people about someone doing this, but it didn't look like anything was done about it.

Lying as in "Dont do that or i'll ban you" or using it for personal gain "give me this or ill ban you"?

And I then assume they wouldn't have the power to ban?

Lying as in "I didn't give a ban reason because I can't because of my RC, even though I have given one before" whereas it's clear by this thread they can.

On Classic when the ban reason is missing or stupid, the ban is usually reversed. I'd imagine most servers would act similarly. ^^

Not GK.

Banning will be improved soon, staff can choose of predefined ban reasons and most bans are time limited

HoudiniMan 01-09-2006 02:15 AM

Predefined bans are silly because details are lost and they invite lies, in my opinoin.

Now if you have a ban form like say...

Banned? _ - checkbox
Date [autofill] - editable
Release Date _________
Your name [autofill] - not editable
Reason:

--------------------
Plus the info should be kept when a new ban is made

If you wanted to put something in a ban message that is not visible to the person being banned you can separate that part by using ---

For changing the release date you have a 'reset release time' box, the other things are in there :)

Sweet :D

If you can ban, you can set a message. When you do /openban #a It has a checkmark box for Banned and then a Reason: The person being baned can read this reason, I don't know who said they couldn't o.o. So therefore if you can ban, you obviously can set a reason :p

Stefan, that sounds awesome. I can't wait. Few q's though. Will someone be banned forever? Like most of the time, such as Era..There REAL picky about their bans, and 9 times out of 10 never unban. Or will there be time limits..? Also, is there a release date?

Well, when you hack we normally don't give you another chance.

Predefined ban reasons would rock.
The ban reasons on Aeon are so unorganized, i'm one of the few who use a standard format.
