History Bug...

I've been meaning to post this bug for awhile but I've never gotten around to it. Anyway it seems that, for me atleast, new history files do not save. It saves for players that I already have a history text file for but for those that I don't it doesn't create a file for them. I checked the F2 window the last time I noticed it and it brings up this type of message "Couldn't open C:/PROGRAM FILES/GRAAL/pms/messages_Joshua16.txt for writing!" Note though that I do have the Save PMs/profiles option checked. I don't believe this is just a trial account think either. I mean I believe I've noticed it not save a log for me with atleast one paid account.

Your Graal folder is set to read only. Go to your Program Files folder, right click on the Graal folder and click Properties. Uncheck the little "Read Only" box and click apply.

Nope that's not what's wrong. The folder was set to Archive not Read Only. Anyway like I said it's recording the history for me with those that already have a text file. However, it doesn't record for those that don't and it doesn't create a text file for them like it's supposed to.

You might want to check the settings on the pms folder too. Also, if you are using WinXP Pro, go to the security tab on the folder and make sure you have the control you need there. If that doesn't work, you could try installing Graal to a different folder (somewhere like C:\Graal).

I probably should of replied sooner but eh... None of that helped. It still won't save for history for those that a file hasn't already been created for. Everytime I get the same message:
Couldn't open C:/PROGRAM FILES/GRAAL/pms/messages_sam_i_am.txt for writing!

It's rather annoying. x-x

That means you don't have write access to that folder/file.

This is where CheeToS's advice comes into play.

And again none of that seems to be the problem since the folder isn't set to read only and I'm using ME not XP. Could it possibly be b/c I have both v2 and v4 installed? I don't think this ever happened before I installed v4...considering my PMs history folder is like 102mb. xd

Raziel 02-05-2006 11:32 PM

Hmm I also have a history problem... ever since I got v4, history bunches up all ugly... like this

opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- message opposite-date- messag eopposite-date- message

instead of

opposite-date- message
opposite-date- message
opposite-date- message
opposite-date- message

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

napo_p2p 02-05-2006 11:39 PM

Maybe try opening the file in WordPad and not notepad.

Nightmareangel 02-06-2006 12:15 AM

I just did a little testing. The problem may be that my PMs folder has too many files in it. I tried manually creating a text file in the folder and I got an unable to create file error. I then deleted one of the existing text files and tried creating a new one again with success. I guess I'm gonna have to do some spring cleaning on that folder then. xd Can anyone confirm if there really is a limit to how many files can be in the PMs folder?

How many files do you have in the pms folder? I know that NTFS (the Windows file sytem) is one of the worst file systems, but I have never had problems with 10k+ files in the same folder.

Nightmareangel 02-06-2006 05:57 AM

Currently I have like 20,800 something files in it.
