Intensity
Most (If not all) of you have played the game Goldeneye on the N64. You remember the artic level? What made you feel so, alone and make you realise you have to depend on yourself? It was the atmosphere. This is where Zone sadly fails. Making an artic level with techno music pumping away doesn't help make it feel like a serious game.
Take for example, in reality there would be a cold wind going by. You could here how quiet it was, if you heard a gunshot you would jump off your seat. Now, we don't want to make a stealthy shoot-em-up. What we need is the feeling of seriousness. The planet I will be picking on is Iricia. First off, the scenery looks a bit too clean and new to think this is a war Zone. The buildings should have massive chunks taken out of them due to past mortaring etc. The walls should be riddiled with bullet holes, here and there. To take it more serious try adding a bit of blood streamed across the walls. With corpses that don't look like fish fossils. Also make it a bit darker? Secondly, what makes Zone feel so different? Well one things for sure and that's the amount of ammo. Ammo is ludicrously high, even if you manage to run out of that you still have energy guns. Now this makes you wonder "What is the purpose of this frickin' combat knife?". People don't think about the posibilities and fun this little thing can do. We need more gory attacks than poking someone with a knife or shooting plasma into their face and hearing a wimpy little "Eh...". With the knife you could hold grab someone from behind and use them as a human shield. I know to GFX this it will be hard by using little midgets, but give it a shot. (Geddit? Shot? Bah! ~Again~) Lastly, it just needs to have a better sound variation. When you shoot someone with bullets, it just makes a reaction as though it hit a wall. What about blood coming out, this blood then falls onto the floor and stays there. Now "ALL" the guns needed to be made stronger! People don't really care about getting the odd shot here and there due to weapons being underpowered. If you made them stronger, it would help make people stick in groups. Also, when crouching can't it be a toggle command instead of hold? When I want to take a base with stealth I have to crawl, get to the base, stand up (Appearing on the radar) to give orders to my crew, then get mauled to death by a syringe. That was just "Some" advice to help make Zone be taken more serious, instead of all this techno music, "Eh" noises, weird gani's, spotless buildings and bright sky. Ah one more thing! Try to make bases a little harder to get, because you can just jetpack over 3, 4 and 5. It's ludicrously easy. Also somebody make more serious looking heads, with big manly stubble. >=D Hoped this sparked a few ideas to what a war zone really is. *Edit Also bullet shots need to be made louder and have a different sound fx. Like in ap pirces it sounds too weak and pathetic. More aggressive sounds please. Thanks for reading - Huwajux |
i dont usually read a full long thread like that through, but that enticed me into reading, i agree whole heartedly, the warzone sould have black muddy snow here and there, crater holes, and music that is not the techno remix of spyro :P everything darky said there was true, i was also thinking maybe the environment could be interactable, like shoot down walls, blast open doors, secret caves/passages, big crater holes that do damage or kill you if u fall in, i beleive in the great war, many soldiers fell in crater holes and drowned in pool of muddy water, maybe you could have shriveled trees that you can spar on fire, make the music sound lonly, like a struggle with a sence of urgency, any sacong you could get banged. and ive always thought of gtting wounded, like if you get shot into red, you receive a wound only a medic can heal with a special weapon kit, these wound would do veriose things like, pick at your health, energy, speed. It would dissapear in dropship. :)

Games arnt supposed to be taken seriously. It's just a game remember that.

Well that doesn't stop some people. They break there computer when they get gangbanged
|
u are rite Hawujux i agree.... and yes ive played goldeneye for n64! :D
|
wel then we need tanks... and planes... and a golden gun woot! got a little carried away there... but yeah the story doesn't fit the type of war this is. this is like the idiots from sesame street ran around with red dyed squirt guns and played war. we need more of a socom type, all dark and spooky. Blood spatter would sound/look cool too. Oh and I personally think that the richochet sound of the bullets should sound against armor (when it comes out) and more of a splat/gush/screeech/eeeeeek/*death scream* for the sound now.
|
WOW jar-jar u really got carried away! x_x

zone looks more like lazer quest with all the shiny coulors and the slight "ugh" no wounds, no blood, no darkness, techno "Spryo the dragon" remixes e.t.c. i agree with everyone that agreed with me and darky.
|
Spyro the Dragon remix?
That song was made by Oinkness when Zone first hit the gold tab. |

Jesus, you played that too Huwa?
I adored that game with every fibre of my being. I still do, as it's the first FPS I ever played. I think I was 7 when I really got into it. I agree though, the atmosphere in that level is bonesplittingly lonely. If zone was like that, it'd make it so much interesting. A few problems: Zone lacks environment. Zone lacks atmosphere. Zone lacks suspense. All three of the above are needed in a shooting game of any kind. Battlefront II, and Battlefield II both have these aspects. WHAM, instantly popular game with a massive online base. I could chew up some environmental effects from around the place (i live near a huge forest, always raining or windy) and possibly add some crap onto existing levels (thank era for that - i've been learning ****loads of LAT stuff from there). Zone needs a major overhaul as far as atmospheric and environmental settings go. |
oh just in addition goldeneye was one of my favoured all time fps and the best game ever on n64 in my opinion, but i never got the very last level :(
|
The above statement is true to the core.
I've already found an environmental music track that could possibly go with iricia, piled with a constant small wind loop maybe: Zilent Zpott - Zpaces I'll get around to finding the .ogg later, the author stopped making tracks a while back and his site is down.. |

Just because YOU don't like rap. Doesn't mean EVERYONE has to change the music. If you don't like it, tough. Oh and if you don't want music on anyway, why the **** did you post this? Spam obviously, look at your post count! |
jin, would you want rap in the background if iricia, do u think that would work eh.

What's a spacktard? It sounds like something I'd find on the sole of my shoe.
