A Serious Issue

This has been approached many times (at least me). It is in fact about graal. Now, as you read that last sentence, did you read aloud in your head the words? When I do, I read "Grayl". Others would read "Grawl".

So here's the big question.

How do YOU pronounce it?

Hitmanjack 09-30-2005 03:25 AM

umm Gra-all? like that lol

Nabru 09-30-2005 03:26 AM

Gray ill. like the Holy Grail

and how is this a serious issue? -2 intelligence points for you

Grail? Grawl... I say it's Grawl because it's french for Grail. Grr al

From the fingers of Stefan himself, it's Gra all.

I can't help but remember another thread concerning the question of what the proper pronunciation of "Graal" was. If memory serves, I think it was Stefan who answered this question some time ago saying that it was never really set in stone or anything; just however a person would rather say it.
Personally I go with "grail."

We're not here for algebra.
And so you know, I'm sure 3x more people will read this because of the title.

According to Stefan, its Grawl, not Grail. That does not stop me from misprouncing it, though.

Hitmanjack 09-30-2005 04:02 AM

Every way people are pronouncing it is relatively the same... stupid threat

napo_p2p 09-30-2005 04:21 AM

Grawl

HoudiniMan 09-30-2005 04:22 AM

I rationalize my mispronunciation by stating the facts:

Graal classic featured the grails (cups)
Stefan is German/French and therefore we naturally pronounce things differently.

Grail sounds better, but Graal is spelled more interestingly. Say it one way, spell it another.

All the oldbies know how to say it already anyway.

Like Grail is the correct way.

But I just say it like "Grall"

What he said.

I say it the way it's spelled, why would you think otherwise? Split it into two syllables: Graal=Gra-al or Gr-aal. I don't see any reference to the "ail" or "ale" pronouncation in there at all, unless you see the two a's giving it a long "ay" sound, but I see it as an "ah" sound. But why would you name it graal instead of grail to avoid confusion? (I know that some references spell grail as graal, but still, the more common is grail x_x) Even if classic dealt with grails, that doesn't mean that that's the way the name of the game is meant to be pronounced, but who am I to say? It's really up to Stefan, I personally can't remember what he said about the pronouncation. But does it really matter?
