XP 64 Compatibility...

Yea, Just to let you all know, I am running my AMD Opteron (64 bit processor) with a Windows XP Professional x64. It runs just fine with no errors. I have a few other games that I know will work for the 64 bit windows as well. Like Battlefield 1942, and a few others.

If anybody wants proof, well... I suppose I can get you a screen shot of my destop and graal running on it.

Don't worry, I'm sure most of the forum will believe you.

Runs in 32 bit mode though I guess, wondering if it's faster?

It runs just fine, I wouldn't mind testing a few programs that I can get ahold of, or testing the differences in the versions. I got a bit of spare time.

Ok, heres the deal, the 64 bit edition of windows will use an emulator for all 32 bit programs. 32 bit has hardware limits that 64 doesn't and that is also in the programs, so the 32 bit drivers don't really work at all. But the good news is this, most of the games and other applications that most people do use, will still run. Some programs will require patches, like Battlefield 1942 will need a 1.61 patch (If i remeber correctly). Version 3 started up on this pc as well, I did not try it just yet though. As for speed, well, that is up to opinion I guess. 64 bit will have alot of power to do more then what you ask it to, I don't see any slow down in version 2 of graal.

Its nice to run around with no lagg from pets or spells, even the heavy direct3d systems used in graal. Oh yea, my cpu is running at about 4% load when it's pretty much idle. Other then that I get about 25% normal when I have 4 different windows open, graal and music up, and the command prompt.

Yeah, if you are wondering what I am currently using, this should sum it up for you.

Just about any 32bit application will run in 64bit. It's pretty much the same idea as with DOS programs running on XP. Lots of backwards-compatibility.

Zomg, like Playstation games runnin' on Playstation 2?!

In other words:

Cool.

Not exactly, but yes. The WoW32 Emulator that Microsoft designed for Windows XP Pro. x64 tends to have a few bugs with certain games and other applications. Usually there is allready a patch or some option you can use to get it to run anyways.

Graal installer worked fine too, without any compatibility options enabled.

Except that many DOS programs don't work on Windows XP ;)

Not that were designed for DOS, no. Alot of those wouldn't even work on 2000. Prior to NT and XP, Windows versions were DOS-based. By DOS-based I meant Windows-based, but based on Windows versions which were DOS-based.

I recently built my pc, i never heard of AMD making an opteron processor, i thought athlon was their best processor.
Here's my specs:
AMD Athlon xp 64 bit 3200 processor
gig ram pc400//and 333 33 is slowing me down.
128 video, 128 video i should have 256 with the 64, to get full graphics out of the pc.
the board is a asus ai technology
I was curious about the 64 bit windows, i see a difference in the pc, but i think i need better ram, the pc runs slow somewhat.
Do tell about your processor this is the first i've heard of opteron.

Laff.
Opteron's have been in the news for quite some time now.
I remember hearing about them debating whether or not to make a 64-bit chip almost a year ago now... (maybe longer?)
Good choice on cpu's though. AMD <3

Anyways, what graphics card ya got?
hint hint, the right answer contains 'nVidia' ;)

oh, and dayaa, I'm envious :p
