Somethin New

I know it's just not me, but alot of people agree. Graal servers, are just aren't as good as before. We need something new. A new server. :\ The only place people go to is Unholy Nation, because they can't find anywhere else to go. A new server should come out.. Something New..Any ideas people?

You're so observant!

I've got an idea for something new - something I started working on but abandoned due to lack of hope for any assistance and/or interest. I'd love to go ahead with it, but I don't want to end up paying for a server that never goes ahead, and I'm far from confident in my own abilities to manage such a project.

Essentially, my idea is for a server in the styling of Classic, but instead of building it with everything pre-made the server will grow. The idea being that it will start off with a well-tiled overworld, detailed and somewhat realistic in form (ie. following somewhat realistic trends with regard to landscape placement and arrangement) with basic quests and towns added to give the world a bit of feeling. As players progress and decide to submit their own houses the world will grow - becoming a developed and fun playerworld.

The problem? I'm a tiler, not a scripter, not a graphics person and not a manager. I've got a map idea outlined and I'm happy to go to work on tiling the levels, but it's not something I'd like to do on my own and not something I want to invest money in without any guarantee of interest. I'd love for someone to help if they want to help realise my idea however. I can't say there'll be flashy new events, or amazing new scripts with awesome cars and guns and the like (in fact, I feel they should stay out of Graal completely) but I do have a vision of a nicely tiled server with some interesting and decent quests. I've even got an overworld map design planned out.

If anyone is interested to help, I'm more than interested in getting it going - even if the interest is from fellow tilers who would like to work on it as a side project or just something fun to build. If people have interest, email me at [email protected] and I'd love to hear peoples' thoughts. This also applies if you're looking for an overworld idea or concept for your server - I'd love to see my project through.

Awesome. If it is done right it could just be awesome.

I agree with Maximus, once you find some people to work with you, it just might happen..

Hmm.. Maybe I could help. I'm better at level designing, but, I know some scripts. Also, I think the server Aeon, should be released, it's the best server I've seen in a while...

Complications, complications!

Their modern needs a lot of work. Their classic is pretty nice though.

Their modern is full of stolen good *cough* :whatever:

I think it would be interesting to see a server where towns start off as small settlements with a few NPC buildings, such as a weapon shop, item shop, mayor's house, etc.
As players join each side, they can gather materials to build their own house. After they get the materials, they trade them for an item which can be given to staff in exchange for building their house in the settlement. For players that aren't good at level design, stock houses should be available.

As the settlement grows, more money will be generated through taxation of the citizens. In turn, this can increase the quality of weapons and items for sale at the shops. There could be three major factions, each with their own borders, and all in a state of war as they fight over neutral lands in the center of the world.

New settlements could be placed, and also attacked and destroyed or captured by opposing forces. If all of the settlements belonging to a faction are destroyed/captured, they can then become a guerrilla group, fighting to liberate cities and regain their position in the world.

Each settlement would have NPC guards, the amount and strength of which would be determined by how large the settlement is.

When killed, a player would drop their weapon, as well as a portion of their money. All newly spawned players would start with a basic dagger/short sword.

Just an idea really.

It would be almost impossible to make a server where players submit content. Can you imagine how bad most of the houses would be? Not to mention the fact you'd have to screen for malicious NPCs and so on.

See: Graal Classic, circa 1999-2000

That where you would have to come up with some sort of system where certain amount of hours to submit a house, This would atleast make it so the player knew the tileset and had a feel for it. I am also sure that if a player was not talented enough to create there own house that there would be freelance level makers scattered all over the server attempting to earn a few extra bucks to make a level.

Also I just had an idea what if it was similar to like a relastate (I could not spell it for some reason) monoply, Everyone is started with a plot of land depending on there achievements in a starting quest, So the better you do the more land and money you get to recieve when you first start.

I think this could turn out cool because it would a constant struggle of power and thats what all players want is power, There would be all kinds of politics that would just involve as players decided to build stores and buisness's, Then corruption would come and it would be like playing through a citys growth instead of just playing on a server where it rarely changes and you dont really have the choice of what goes on.

Yeah, but main lasted so long because it was the only server. It's not going to pull players away from UN. UN is like a big magnet, and before you try to take them on you have to whittle their playercount down.

But see, GtA allowed for player-created content, that had to pass through some sort of review process ahead of time. It's proof that such a thing isn't impossible.
