Cowboy hat?

Some staff have been walking around with this item lately. Is it new or old? Is it possible for normal players to get it?

I created the graphics, and stats for this hat, and on Wednesday it was evented off in a Horse Race, which was thoroughly announced for a week before hand.

The winners of this hat were:
Raziel
Sacred Shadow
and uhh... Linkishback?

Sam and I also have a copy :)

Cheops 07-23-2005 08:11 PM

staff get free items?
*applies to staff*
honestly, do you really think that's fair?

I created the graphics for the hat, and the stats, and helped with the race; I hardly consider it free, since... y'know there would be no item to give if I hadn't made the graphics.

Cheops 07-23-2005 08:18 PM

yeah, so you created an item for yourself. again, that's not fair and i thought there were rules about properly eventing items such that staff could not just make them, event a few and keep the rest. if you wanted it, maybe you should have participated in the horse race.

Googi 07-23-2005 08:22 PM

Haha, sorry Zero Hour.

Will there be any more of them given away in events?

Hope not! Nice prizes get given out too much.

Zero Hour doesn't have the create item NPC. ;)
And he was given it from an admin.

Please SHUT. UP.. You obviously don't know what you're talking about.

all i can do is laugh at your eagerness to pick a fight. the forums are for information, so not knowing what you're talking about describes most of the people who post here with queries, by definition

see? i think stryker understands what i mean---the fringe benefits would have to be given to everyone or it's not fair---if the hard work of drawing an item and creating its stats rewards you with the item itself, than many, many players have the capacity to get items in this way, but obviously only the staff are benefitting since they're the only ones with access to an attentive admin ear with a creat item npc

*edit: stryker deleted his post, making my second paragraph obsolete

DEAR LORD! How DARE these staff members give themselves free items after hours of non-paid slave work, for a commerce producing server, for the betterment of it's players! Damn them to Hell I say!

Sorry, it existed for a minute so I didn't think anyone read it. I'll re-add it here.

Back when I was Events Master, I evented off the first Forgotten Frost, first Demon Shield, first Hammerouge Shield. I worked hard on the spar tournament done, worked with those who made the shields, discussed the stats on the shields.

Where are my copies then?

so, yeah, um, please refer to stryker's post before you cynically and sarcastically (and non constructively) add your own inner thoughts, as usual

Raziel 07-23-2005 10:56 PM

I made a whole new head gfx, asked Bjorn to upload it and make it exclusive for me, and he said no.

Googi 07-23-2005 11:40 PM

I'm going to recolour the Naginata and give it awesome stats and call it "Lance of Longinus" then get it uploaded and given to me.

Zero Hour 07-23-2005 11:52 PM

Ah, but I was establishing a scenario which would disprove your statements. It is constructive, it's just anti-your beliefs on the matter- so of course you're going to have a negative outlook on it.

And as you stated in your thread, he deleted his post. So how was I supposed to response to a non existant post? None the less from his post it appears that he only made the event for the item and whatnot.

The whole point is that you cant make an item and expect a copy. But dont tie your panties in a knot when a staff member gives himself a -hat-. It's a 32x32 pixil image.

Yeah but speed+2.

HoudiniMan 07-29-2005 01:53 PM

I made an awesome wand to go with my "look" that didn't even have any stats... and I had to spend an easter egg on it... Oh well.

Still liked it better as HoudiniWand on debug than Blue Crystal Wand... seems uncreative, but at least i get to use it :)

These kind of staff are the folks that made the unnecessary items. For example, “Mail of Might," and created items that conflicted with role-playing environment. That time could have been channeled to correcting some very problematic aspects of the game. Of course since we have children as administrators, nothing really gets done unless the parents like Stefan say something.

xAndrewx 07-29-2005 04:36 PM

What's the 'Mail of Might'?

And you want to say us with this message? :whatever:
I think you don't even belive what you just said. "nothing really gets done" oh my, please... you have absolutly no clue whats goint on so don't talk about things you can't even proof.

Sam and Zero Hour just got such a hat for the entertainment and nothing else. I didn't even know it was uploaded but this doesn't matter. From Sam I know that they sold the hats to a shop npc after the event was over.

Edit: Sam sold his but not Zero Hour. I'll have a word with him.

xAndrewx 07-29-2005 04:57 PM

As Bjorn said, alot of stuff is currently happening :-)

Smutastic 07-29-2005 06:08 PM

Man. Let Zero Hour have that damn hat, who the hell cares. He improved the server with his graphics so give him a reward for his work.

Crono 07-29-2005 06:42 PM

Not like Zero Hour is gonna sit there in the trading center boasting about how much bigger his e-pen0r is with a hat like most of the GK players.

note:e-pen0r is not a bad word or even "bad"

Do you know the stats on the hat which is in question?
Conflict with RP? There's Samurai's running around, and I can't be a cowboy?

Shogun ruled Japan: 1192AC-1892AC (approximately) (with reference to the kingdom "Samurai")
Cowboys ~1500AC (Cowboys can be traced back to 2000BC, but it would be more suitable to consider them shepards... but I'm getting my info from Google)

I don't see what the problem is?

Quote:

Children? I'm nearly 20... and I'm a GP and GAT, not an administrator.
Quote:

Stefan is barely involved with GK beyond scripting and debugging the new mudlib, Bjorn is basically running it, and he's doing a decent job.

This reminds me of what Tyhm did, one time; I had (re)created the "small" shield, and wanted it uploaded to GK. Tyhm ofcourse started saying that it's staff like me that ruin the game with all of our overpowered items, only concerned about ourselfs... until I told him the stats: AC+1... no armour, nothing else. I just wanted archers to have a shield they could wear, I suspect that doesn't ruin the RP, does it? )':

Just to clearify the Cowboy Hat is AC+1, and Speed+2... no armour, once again... and the players who gained it had to do a series of horse races in a
very announced horse race, which Ed hosted.

Now, I'm going to assume that, since you called me a child who ruins RP (I guess that you assumed the item had amazing stats, and that I have lots of amazing gear to match it) you think I'm only concerned about items... I only have a single "Samurai shield"+2, dual Rings of Combat, and a flaming sword of Ogma+6, aswell as my recently acquired cowboy hat... I guess you can just toss the assumption aside.

Also, I've RPed for several years on GK... I was the Strategus in Zormite under Wren Archigos, and restructured the military in a more suiting RP fashion. I've RPed the same character, Fitzwilliam Vimes, for probably more than two years.

I doubt it, but you may recognize the name Vimes, it's a small RP family Ruathma Vimes (Monkyboy_Mcgee) started, and I carried on after he left.

Perhaps this will clearify some stuff people didn't know before.

Why didn't you just say e-*****? (edit: I see... the word for a male's sexual body part is censored... probably due to people abusing it :( )
Or would that be considered sexual harassment while you're defending his case? (not rolling eyes to either of you 2 btw)

The hat sounds cool. The idea of a cowboy hat itself sounds stupid. Since when is there cowboys in GK? Who cares about our world's own timeline? If you can't point out when fish people ruled our planet (IMO, Zormites ruled the Graal world ;) or rocked its socks once or twice), pointing out that Cowboys co-existed with Samurai is pointless.

BTW, I still have yet to get my pirate hat. :[
Something I was pushing for almost 2 years.

(I'll try to keep my next post more focused. I promise)

Seriously why don't the pirates get pirate hats, parrots on their shoulders, and stuff that PIRATES should have?

He's Samurai.
He means he made a hat awhile ago, and it's still not uploaded.

Crono is commenting that kingdoms should have various uniform things that are unique to them only. That when you join you get those items, but when you quit you lose them.

That's how it was back on 2k1 with Dustari. If you joined Dustari then you got three free helmets, only to be worn on tag (when you took the tag off they went away)

Ooh. My mistake.
I wouldn't mind that, but I doubt that it would happen. [It'd make all the kingdoms 'fare' again.. These items couldn't be dropped, right?]

The items couldn't be dropped, probably be immovable in the Q menu.

I am very knowledgeable on what goes on in Graal Kingdoms. I have been observing it since after the first hour of its initial release. At first, I patiently waited for all of our role-playing items and environment to be setup. Now I’m waiting to see if this game ever gets back to its original purpose of being a role-playing server.

Proof? We have this very problematic ship system. We can’t even send a fleet over to fight an opposing faction without have half the fleet stranded in between the transition of maps. Or we have our vessels stuck on a piece of bread, coin, corn, chicken etc…

We have an arsenal of obsolete combat items, for example that steel sword, chain mails, paladin helmet, clubs, maces etc…..As a result, everyone is going after the same items because they are superior to the previous ones first developed. The general population has the same weapons so we lose diversity and making our role-playing characters unique.

And then there is game environment/mechanics. Everybody is on the main island because there is no point on staying in the Kingdom islands. Move the mines, the places of production to give life to the kingdom islands. We fight bunnies and t-rexes. The bosses are like maximized rabbits and shrooms. We have all these spontaneous ideas that only excite the community for awhile like card playing houses, fishing, collecting pets etc…

And then we have staff make cowboy hats, mail of might, these nice shields that are still not out but administrators wear them anyway. This kind of stuff is what I’m talking about. We need to focus our attention to major game-play faults and not creating pretty hats. Show me this cowboy hat and lets see if it fits in with the middle ages.
