Opinions?

This is the first level I've done in quite some time (over a year at least).

Give me your thoughts on what's good about it and what I need to improve on.

From afar... I don't like the table size -- It seems misplaced.
It seems as though you put a lot of work in it none-the-less.

SuperSlayer90 05-30-2005 09:28 PM

The only thing I don't like is the table.
Looks misplaced.

Luciano 05-30-2005 09:50 PM

Table, misplaced.
Good level.

Blitz_Hunter 05-30-2005 09:57 PM

Not bad for being gone a year. I agree with others, that table does seem to be in a very odd spot. LoL ;)

I don't like how the normal cliff looks next to the jule or whatever it's called.

It messes with the perspective of the level.

I agree though I applaud you for trying to merge the two cliffing styles.

I personally like this level, not bad for over a year, like they said. And yeah, also like they said, the table is out of place.

Nice job :)

I haven't done levelling in awhile, but there seem to be a few places along the top of the cliffs which are missing particular pieces which would fill in some of the abrupt gaps in the detail lines. The table is in the middle of a path, which looks kind of awkward as well. Other than that, I'd say a fairly nice job.

Mykel 05-31-2005 03:17 AM

Hell of a job for not leveling for a year.

But if I were to view it as an outsider, I would give it a 5/10. (Average)

This is because of two main reasons that are just personal things I don't care for.

Firstly, the dirt path is wide, with only dirt filling it (with the exception of the puddle in the middle). I don't mind wide paths, but I don't like them much whenever they aren't filled with much, or seperated with grass or things of that sort. Just a personal opinion.

Secondly (<-- Is that a word?), I am not a big fan of the detailing. Preference for detailing varies completely from person to person, but I am a fan of the 'clump-form' form of detailing. You may not be however, so as I said, it is a matter of opinion. To me it just looks like you added detailing, with it spread out so that there were no big empty areas.

However, !JULES!. <3 I heart jules.

Detailing isn't done too well

Jules and cliffs look ok...

Trees are ok...

Roads. Right, something seems to be missing from them. I can't pinpoint what exactly though. The dirt detailing itself isn't so bad.

The dark spots on the beach are too broad. I prefer them to be more narrow but others probably don't agree. Water looks alright.

Grass to grass is ok, nothing special.

Table is out of place.

Nice try :)
4/10

Nice level, but i have the same thoughts as everyone else who posted, something should be done about that table. Also the detail looks good to me, a nice looking house would look good in this level. :)

Lyndzey 05-31-2005 09:56 PM

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was originally going to put a house where the current table is, but I'm awful at making original houses. So I threw a table on there instead (not the best decision though).

Heh, well you don't always have to be creative. I, personally, like the look of the base house and use it often with very small edits.

Make houses out of the house tiles and not random tiles.

Good?

zim5354 06-01-2005 04:07 AM

but then that sets a generic form for houses aka not cool in my book!

Blitz_Hunter 06-01-2005 04:40 AM

No one likes pre-defined houses, anymore.

Methril 06-03-2005 03:24 AM

non-houses that slightly resemble houses are not cool in my book. (which is the official and correct book)

xAndrewx 06-03-2005 08:50 AM

I like it, cool.

Malinko 06-03-2005 01:58 PM

I agree with the table being misplaced. Doesn't match the level or so. Probably better to have tree stumps with chairs around it and maybe a lamp on the tree stump? :)

Hm, yes, the two cliff styles (cliff and dune) doesn't match to me.

Though, the rest of the level is nice. :)

King homer daStupid 06-05-2005 10:48 AM

Excellent level considering your absence in leveling, however as many people have said, the table is awkwardly positioned and also you need to add more grass and sand detail in places.
