Religious Implication?

To process the ideas and images that discomfort us, such as gore, it takes quite a level of maturity... Yet, in the same sense, Religion can be seem as such through people's eyes. I'm currently working on a very religious server, (not based on any world religion) and I was wondering to what extend can I impliment religion into the server without people reacting violently towards such items.

I don't find it particulairely bad for a lot of long, memorible games have held great religious implication -- Crono Trigger, Zelda, Marrowind have all been touched by divine in some way or another... Based upon religion in an obscure way, and yet, such as the three gods who forged the triforce, haven't offended very much people. Religion, although a very serious topic, is something deemed mature content, and thus, a child of thirteen years of age shouldn't be exposed to such. This may be extending the rule as for Graal itself is named after a holy artifact (The holy grail, for those who haven't noticed.. Graal is french for Grail ;) ), alas, I do not see much to bicker about, but this can be held against me in any case.

The question arrises... How much religion implications may I put into the server without violating any rules or codes?

Religious questioning can be in part of how the world was created, what is life after death (is it reincarnation? Do we move onto another plane? Is it simply the void?), or prophets (Jesus, the son of god, persay...), as they connect with the earth in various ways. Religion, afterall, is a set of beliefs. Thereby, how much can the server's belief system be exposed to the player, and should I put a warning about the maturity of the content? Should I ignore it completely, as for this section is ignored by the rest because todays society isn't as religious as it was centuries ago?

It's the players choice whether or not they play the server or not... so I would say whatever you want but it would be worth it considering how it could affect your playercount.

I think it will be clear that the fictional in-game religion is a seperate entity from any real religious beliefs.

Although, Gorey images are a violation (to some extend), althoug there is a clear difference between where real gore and virtual gore lies.

In all essence, I just want to know how much can I put in without violating the rules I have to follow.

Interesting idea...what kind of gore are you talking about exactly?

Talking Frogs? Time travel? Heh... Time Travel is religion, to a certain extent. How would one explain Time Travel? Passing through god's channel? You ask a religious person how he'd see time travel, and that would be a rather religious implication. It's all in the perspective, especially for anything in science fiction. Depending on the circumstances, it may be considered religious.

To go on with this -- The server itself doesn't have a god, or a true religion, but it's based off science fiction, and how religion gets created due to such. The server starts off in a medieval timeset, and finds a rune in the ground -- That rune could heal people. Thereby, the rune itself, from that point of view, was magical. However it could be billions of nanotechnology monitering and destroying/repairing any flaw in your system.

The server is based not on religion mainly, but how religions are created by mysterious outcomes due to lack of knowlegde (as I don't know how to time travel) -- how people use religion as a means to amplify their existance, by using these unknown factors and claiming they possess religious natures. And by cause, anything can have very much religion in them, as for they are heading towards a gap were it isn't scientific yet.

Much as in my server, time travel would be viewed as god's act. It isn't anything that will happen (quite hard in a MMORPG!), but it's just to clear my point.

Xenogears = loaded with religious implications
same with Final Fantasy Tactics

Both were awesome because of it

Religion could hold some benefit for storyline, and could probably open up a nice game "job" system and such.. but relying too heavily on religion for the entirity of the game wouldnt work too well.

I guess as long as it isnt like "Go on a quest for Jesus!" itd be fine with me. Make up some Gods or maybe base it on Norse Gods, I dunnoz.

I don't think you have to censor anything here, or hide it behind warnings. As long as you're not openly satirising any real-world religion, there are aren't really any stable grounds on which you could be criticised.

The fact that stupid people sometimes resort to religion in order to explain things is undeniable. Even Christians have to admit it; how else can they explain the existence of all the other religions?

allah is god in arabic....not to mention alot of the principals are the same and alot of christian religions are shoot offs or very close togeather its simply if you just think of it i mean the only ones christians cant explain are buddism and a few others (pegian relgions are described in the bible) -end rant-

Okay. How do they account for polytheistic beliefs? How do they account for Shinto, or the Greek gods?

I don't know what the hell Shinto is, is it the Japanese business with spirits where they hang up cards in trees? But for the Greek gods:

I guess he ment to type 'pagan' there.

Besides, the Greeks had a lot of religions. Some of them believed that a person's soul went to beans...

Yeah, pretty much.

Yes. But 'paganism' is a very wide description, and I'm wondering how his religion explains all of its subsets.

I assumed that people would know what I meant.
