Images cause a lot of lag

Some people use images for effects, like weather, and particle effects, but it seems a lot of images cause lag, is there any way you could make lots of images less laggy stefan?

It's not the images themselves that cause the lag, it's the amount of light effects used.

Is there any way stefan could optimise code to allow for better particle systems? Id really love to release a weather system that can use much more images without the lag.

How many drops of rain do you need, man?

Gman4pwnu 03-25-2005 06:45 AM

Its more about the fog kai. The rain only needs like 50 to look decent. Its also more about the spell effects.

I don't think you need so many images to make reasonable fog.

I've never had any problems. I suggest that you code more efficiently.

Indeed, the Classic/Elysium fog is using only like 8 images I think but it looks pretty awesome.

Use bigger fog images.

Pjotoshop > Filters > Render > Clouds.

Apply light effects.

Voila!

Yes it's sometimes possible to use tricks to be able to use less images and less scripting to gain the same effect. The next Graal version will also have a particle engine. That will not reduce the amount of images, but the calculation of the position will be much faster than when done by script.
