Phoenix Signature
1 Attachment(s)
Well I needed a signature for this forum and my favorite legendary creature is the phoenix, so I created an image based on it. Any comments/suggestions are appreciated :)
As a little background, I created this image based on a reference and did it completely in pixelation, my preferred style of drawing. Took about 4 hours total. |
It's pretty nice. The shoulders look a little strange, like the head doesn't line up with the wings or something, but it's still a cool picture. However...
The size is within the rules, but I don't personally think anybody should have that large a signature. |
Well, I'll tell you what I love first. The torso, wings, and the extended tails. Neck seems rather choppy, smoothen it out perhaps? Eye looks completely out of place, perhaps just try white eye? The tail is too bold and the shapes are ugly looking. Smoothen them out just by taking a white pencil tool and going over the edges in a nice curve. Nice to see somone here who prefers this style of drawing finally. Mind showing the reference picture?

Tail is ugly...
Those dangly things are really ugly The file is very tall... I like it though [: |
All right well I think I'll just chop of the tails... they're a very nice addition but perhaps its usage is outweighed by the size of the image. I'm fixing up the shoulders and neck as of now. The eye is meant to be that way, perhaps you are viewing it a different way than i am? Here is the reference i used http://www.wuzware.com/artwork/phoenix.jpg
UPDATE: Various edits as seen in signature. |
It might just be me but if you block out the wings, does it look like a fish?

UPDATE: Fixed up tail. Any other peace of mind anybody wants to take out on my bird? =D |
it looks good for something that took you 4 hours, and i like costomized sighnatures
|
Well just to side-track a bit, I love your sig too. Commander Keen was one of the most fun games ever, and the level in your sig was my favorite level too. It sure brings back memories =D Now I'm downloading the game so I can play it again lol.

It looks nice.

It's an amazing piece of work, but It'd look better with a black background, like in the thumbnail.
|
I think it's fine on a white background. It's meant to be a light picture, if it was on a black background it would add so much contrast that it would take away from the effect of the phoenix going into the sky.
|
o hahaah i didnt see that, i just googled phoenix :)
|
Pretty darn hot if you ask me.
|
Change the tail more. I don't like it very much-needs to be thinner in my opinion. The rest is very good though, although as Scott said, I still think the eye is off a bit.
|
Hm well I still think the eye is not so bad, so I'll choose to leave it that way. As for the tail, if i made it too thin it will deform the overall shape of the phoenix. I don't want it to be completely straight either. If you can convince me that making the tail thinner than it is now will not leave me with a firey stick, i'll gladly update it ^^
|
I liked the tail thingies. You ruined something nice. The neck is fixed, very cool. Wings, fine. Torso needs some shape instead of a perfect oval type thing.
|
I agree, if I had touched up the tails with a bit of anti-aliasing and flow I'm sure they'd be a great addition to the picture. The real problem with that is the size of the picture becomes too large to be suitable for this forum... so sadly I had to ditch the tails in order to keep the whole bird on here. ah well. As for the elliptical shape of the body, i think it makes it look more streamline ^^ did it bother you a lot when you first looked at the picture?
