I doubt they even work nearly 50% when they are asked to translate more than one word.

Then take it 1 word at a time, Mr. Sparkey.

Do you know how long that would take? It's much easier to just have someone hired. Graal Online is a product made from a company, and it wouldnt be very professional of them to use a non-reliable translation system for translating.

But then it messes up with variations of different words and other things :P

Skyld 03-15-2005 06:42 PM

Or you could just find somebody who speaks fluent English and Chinese.

csod123 03-15-2005 07:26 PM

actualy if you are going to hire someone who speaks chinese you would have to hire a few people, there are many different dialects.

Wow, I'd never saw this coming, hehe. Well depends what you mean by 'chinese'. There's a few different languages in chinese. :)

That's what I thought. Watashi mo sukoshi wa hanasukoto ga dekimasu. Daigaku de benkyou o shimasu :)

TeRRi2k 03-16-2005 02:31 AM

That doesn't work because I tried it once. The meanings are all distorted and some characters aren't even ANYTHING when standing alone.

There's many more than five. But the main ones are all written in the same form, so if this paid job is purely written then there is no problem concerning dialect. Otherwise choose between Mandarin or Cantonese, because almost every Chinese person will understand at least one of these dialects.

He said that he wanted to move to Japan, so I asked him if he could speak Japanese, and he said yes, and I assumed that, being that he wanted to move to Japan, he would have to be able to speak it fluently.

Well mandarin and cantonese are written the same way (traditional/simplified are really similar) but other I'm not sure about other dialects. This job states "You must be able to speak Chinese/English fluently." ....so what about writing/reading,etc?

That was like...three years ago, dude. My ambitions have changed.

e: And three years ago my Japanese was workable, but now I'm limited to select phrases that have stuck in my head. So >:[ on you, Kai.

From what I have seen on videos at school....a lot of Japanese people speak English so it really wouldn't be that hard to just move and learn from talking to people.

ThinkDifferent 03-16-2005 03:24 PM

I know quite a few people in real life who are Chinese (natives) who do speak the language and USED to play Graal. I'll inquire about their interest in the project later today.

Thats because they don't show you the videos of Japanese people speaking Japanese as you wouldn't understand it!

Crono 03-16-2005 06:44 PM

unixmad said chinese, where the hell are you people getting japanese from?

Wondering the same thing xD (but maybe because Chinese and Japanese are similar in a few ways.)

I would apply to this, cept I don't know what they'll require you to do besides 'speaking' it. x_x;

Well, it's not unusual for there to be various dialects within a language, but usually there's enough common ground to facilitate communication.

TeRRi2k 03-17-2005 03:29 AM

Well even though there's many dialects of chinese out there, only two of them are commonly used and they're pretty much written the same way.
