The first one and second one tile very well, i wont say how long it took, but im looking for ratings, last one is made from the tutorial at the top of the page.

Why make it 32x32? Try 128x128, or at least 64x64. If you make grass tiles at those sizes, it will allow for a more convincing graphic. The pattern can not be recognized when tiled with a 64x64 or 128x128 tile if well done.

Aside from that point....it looks decent. Nothing ground-breaking though. Regardless, you did good.

this is my first try at grass, i never thought of doing it bigger.

This is a nice tip [:

If you're gonna spend 64 slots on grass then why arrange it into 8x8 tiles? I'd think it'd be better to allow a more random distribution, to further break down the patterns.

What do you mean "slots"? "Soul-Blade" means pixels, as in the image resolution...

I like the third one the best, but the colors are too light I think.

I do believe Kai is talking about "slots" on a tileset, as in individual tiles.

128x128 pixels => 8x8 slots. You figure it out, dude.

:P I get you now

Kaimetsu, I wasn't disagreeing with your comment. In fact, our comments agree completely.
I personally don't think "realistic" grass can be done with details contained in a smaller size than 128x128, and if you create 64 tiles of grass which can be mixed and matched then the details would need to be reduced in order to allow that (in other words, each tile would need to be 16x16 or 32x32 or something along those lines...not enough room really for detailed, realistic grass, though 32x32 is doable) - otherwise, you would have poorly made grass (this doesn't apply to "graal" style I guess).

Either way, you need more then 4 tiles to make some nice grass. And that was what I was mainly saying in my original post.

That's a pretty large area. What kind of details are we talking about here? I cannot imagine them stretching over 8x8 tiles².

Gman4pwnu 03-10-2005 02:00 AM

lol i post a threads asking for ratings and i get an argument over opinions.

Zero Hour 03-10-2005 02:42 AM

I think they're arguing standards more so than opinions :P

coreys 03-12-2005 12:42 AM

actually, its quite possible to make good tiles in less than that. I made a very convincing grass in just a 16x16 tile.

Well, as soon as I find Donald on AIM I will get the grass tile I designed as an example. I can't really explain it any other way. After you see this tile you will understand the standards and the reason why you can't go smaller.
