GFXer not so good at sprite animation

My GFXer is trying to make custom bodies, he does some great work, but he cant seem to get sprite animation very good or realistic, can you all post some tips? and if you want i will post the body he is working on.

Sprites suck.

They require that you do a very good image many MANY MANY times. I always say this "Screw you, find another means of getting to your ends".

That's my tip.

any real tips for my great gfxer?

LordZen 02-14-2005 08:25 PM

That is a real tip, sadly.

If the images arent drawn well, you are going to have a very, very difficult time animating them well.

Not only do they have to look good, but the kid has to be considering the fact that he has to use the images in an animated sequence DURING the process of actually drawing them.

zen will you post your example movement bodies so he can look at them?

Yeah, sprite animations are very hard to do, and takes a lot of effort. Your sprite doesn't seem to have any perspective, by the way x-x

Never animate a detailed sprite. Start with stick figures, and go through the entire animation. Then flesh out the stick figures. Apply some color to them, then some very primitive shading. From there you can go as detailed as you like; usually, if you keep the same light source in each sprite the shading flows perfectly in the animation.

If you animate a completed sprite, it will always be a terrible job unless you're extremely experienced.
