Some Help With GFXing

I am a noob (Never gfxed in my life) And I might get started. I am wondering what program you use to do this stuff, so if you can please respond thanks,
Arnackish.
And Wouldnt the gfxers have to do the gani for if they wanted to do swords?

There are many graphic programs I'm sort of at a loss for what programs to sugest to you. As for your second question I have to confess I don't really understand it, could you try rewording it please?

Depends on what you want to do, and you personal preference. Graphics Gale is a very good free program for pixel graphics. Something like OpenCanvas is good for simulating watercolours and the like. Some people just stick to paint for pixeling, personally I don't like it.

I prefer Photoshop, as I'm more familiar with it, the shortcuts, etc... I use it for pretty much everything, pixeling, vector graphics, photo editing. It's the industry standard... So of course it comes at a bit of a price... I think if you go through your school/college you can get the new Adobe Creative Suite (Which includes Photoshop, Illustrater, etc) at a rather large discount...

When making 'pixel' with a program like Photoshop, or Paint Shop Pro (I'd go with Photoshop over PSP if you're starting from scratch anyday... And yes, I've tried both) try to shy away from the flashy features... Stuff like filters, textures, airbrushes, and translucent layers. Your graphics usually end up looking sloppy. Some people can pull off decent brushwork, but I always think pixelled things look much better than brushed things.

Mih, I cant think of anything else to say. Just go with what you're most comfortable with... But beware that somethings can be pricey....

(P.S. Oh, a free alternative to something like Photoshop would be The GIMP. It's open source or some jazz like that... I've never used it before though, so I'm not sure how well it works)

Weapons and heads, ext (graal size, how do I know to make it at certian size?)

Scott 02-10-2005 04:14 AM

Open Canvas.

LordZen 02-10-2005 07:08 AM

Of course I'm going to suggest MS Paint...

Your brand new and just starting out, so I would go with the bear bones route. Paint doesnt offer much to get confused with, lol.

No, you dont have to be able to make ganis to make swords, unless you make up your own spritesheets for them -- and even then you could get somebody else to make the ganis.

Just open up your "graal2001/levels/heads" directory and open head0.png or head0.gif (I think) and that will show roughly what size all graal classic heads have to be. Same with swords, just open "graal2001/levels/swords" and open sword0.png or sword0.gif (I think) and follow that as a guide.

Do some offline trial and error, and you'll get the hang of it.

Look at this cool gfx I made, i think it looks cool!

Crono1508 02-11-2005 03:35 AM

I'll tell you one thing, practice.
Atleast you can barely start to shade.
Trust me, you won't master graphics until awhile.

LordZen 02-11-2005 07:21 AM

-__-;;

Please dont triple post.

And, try double clicking a color square in paint along the bottom, it will bring up a window where if you play around in it you can replace that color you double clicked with any color of the rainbow! (plus white, gray, black, etc)

I made this with Art Rage a long time ago :D

Art Rage can be fun too. :[

Arnack 02-14-2005 03:40 AM

Free?

LordZen 02-14-2005 08:22 PM

Arnack, get proficient in MS Paint before you attempt to confuse yourself with something more complicated.

Arnack 02-14-2005 11:30 PM

Ok, but does anyyone know why I am very bad at drawing Graal related things, like heads, bodies, ect? I am better in non-graal related things just not Graalish, anyone know my problems?

Curt1zzle 02-15-2005 12:07 AM

Try zooming to the maximum ammount, so that your pixels are straight and accurate instead of guesstimating in 100% view.

Makes stuff easier, son.

Arnack 02-15-2005 02:17 AM

I do that z.z

Lets go over a few possibilities:

Lack of practice.

probably

OasaTor_PK 02-17-2005 03:21 AM

Open Canvas, good pixel art, I thought I saw that hehe, I google searched it, got a bunch of japanese or chinese, not sure, could you guys lead me in a direction on where/how to attain this software? Bootlegging is always accepted hehe, jk, Well not really, but "j/p"

Arnack 02-17-2005 03:21 AM

I practice. Comes out wrong...
