EK's new battle system

I promised it'd come, and it finally has! After countless hours of trying to find what was wrong the new battle systemn has been added. Currently it only works with molds, but it will slowly be added to other monsters as well, and will soon be party based (and i might even make the number of monsters you fight random). Any suggestionms to make the system better would be appreciated (feel free to go online and try it out!)

Screenshots? In-depth explanation?

falco10291029 02-06-2005 07:19 PM

The fact that it's available to tryout, Elemental Kingdoms, on the hosted tab. If you want info on it, log on to EK and find a mold (some molds are staying still, we're working on that)

alright I decided I'd be nice and take 1 screen shot, of the battle field that you warp to after a mold touches you.

EDIT: Oh yes forgot to add, the spell I'm using is dark storm, which will be added soon ;)

I made that one, and yes I will get it replaced with a better one soon ;) (most of them were made by staff that have been fired or quit though)

Just curious...
;)

falco10291029 02-06-2005 08:42 PM

Having that said anyone care to donate a new battle level? Please?

xManiamaNx 02-06-2005 09:25 PM

Make your own battle levels :)

sage_scooby 02-06-2005 10:33 PM

The battle system is definitely something I may check out.

But asking for a level donation thats a bit odd......

falco10291029 02-06-2005 11:50 PM

yeah I know MY lats never come on :(

zell12 02-07-2005 05:45 AM

Well, whats a server without levels right? Ah well, help will come to those who seek it -- mabey not in Graal though. :(

sage_scooby 02-08-2005 01:00 PM

Well I checked out the battle system, though about 15-20 wall walking slimes had no problem killing me on the way there.... Then all I had to do was wait for the mold to wander over the body of water to engage me....But the battle system itself was good. But the monster didnt remind me of mold, and the level was ugly. Also I dont think you need the word fight to stay the whole time.

Gman4pwnu 02-08-2005 05:33 PM

the battle system is alright... just a playertouchesme warp :o

Kaimetsu 02-08-2005 05:58 PM

Generic, uninspired.

falco10291029 02-08-2005 10:29 PM

the warp took a while to get to work correctly; getting the level to copy, and the monster to warp there with you. I klnow the level is ugly, I said I need a new one. As for Kai's comment, No other playeerworld even has a warp battle system that i know of, you just fight on the overworld. We're the first to actually use one. As for implementing it for the rest of the monsters (and making not as many monsters appear ;) ) those will take backseat to working on the subclass system, currently i'm trying to get my summon mold spell to work.

Well, I don't know about that, but I've often heard it being touted as a promised feature. Particularly in the months following the releases of new Final Fantasy games.

What happens from the perspective of other players when you collide with an enemy? Do you both just vanish for a while? What if two people want to team up against a monster?

falco10291029 02-08-2005 11:33 PM

I have posted in another thread that if two people want to team up they will need to make a party (which will be done after subclasses and the rest of the battle system). Upon touching a monster a player and nearby party members will all warp to the level.

Vanishing into thin air, then? With no real explanation? Sounds sloppy.

falco10291029 02-09-2005 01:12 AM

Oh you're right, and while i'm at it we cant have spells, those aren't explainable, and monsters? they dont exist. better delete them. :whatever:

Both can easily be explained within a fictitious setting. Are you saying that the combatants actually disappear, within the context of your gameworld? That some deity whisks you away to some magical, nondescript area whenever you engage in a battle?

How does a person watch a fight in your system? A duel between two roleplayers, for example?

falco10291029 02-09-2005 01:54 AM

Between two peple you wouldnt warp anywhere, but i know what you're getting at. I suppose I can eventually make it possible to watch current battles, but that takes low priority to everything else.

MASTERCOLA 02-09-2005 04:28 AM

i see ideas have collided, hopefully they are not to simlar, zenkou has almost completed a turn based battle warp system very much like the final fantasy battle system .... which has party creation, that allows players to come together and fight in a party in the same battle, experiance and level gain, learning of magic and skills, choosing of classes, the spectating of battles, however our monsters are not physically seen on the gameworld, they appear as they do in the final fantasy series's (only using final fantasy as a good example as i know their are many games with the same form of system), customising characters with weapons and armor, even forging their own with the right minerals, in our system players can offer a challange to another if this is accepted a player warps to the place of battle, yes they vanish but on the gameworld battle graphic remains where a player passing by may choose to view the battle. we have done this and have evidence of this long term work... do not doubt this.

we have been hosted for a very long time, most have failed to see our battle system as it hasn't been released to most the public, expect to see it soon, judge it for yourself,

it has been worked on for a very long time and in no way have zenkou taken this idea from EK, and i have no doubt that EK hasn't taken or idea, ideas have simply clashed, i thought on this for a while and people will say one server is copying from another... i wish to break the ice and say zenkou has not stole this idea from EK, it is a creation from myself, haro41, and PFA.

however i might be completly wrong as EK's battle sys may be completly different to ours. but it sounds familar...

thanks and my apologuies for diverting this thread.

falco10291029 02-09-2005 05:05 AM

Our battle system is completely different from the final fantasy type except in the fact that you warp to a battle level. The monsters are seen on the overworld, the battles are real time, and probably many other differences. The idea for a new battle system for ek came up many times and we just recently were able to make it. We did not copy from zenkou either (in fact i just now realized they had one ;) ), though we will have party systems and some way to view battles. Those things will come later though. Here's a list of some features that may or may not be added to the system:

-Random number of monsters in encounter

-All monsters except boss monsters and quest monsters will use this.

-Party based (defnitely implemented sooner or later

-Run command (definite, though for now one can just warp from battle)

-Ability to view other's battles for larger monsters (wont bother for things like jellies or molds)

-Random battle events (health ups appear, another monster spawns, ect)

-Possibly all server battlemaps for events.

-NPC party members (early version will be things like summoned monsters)

-Multi monster encounters (as in if there are different monsters nearby when you touch one they all enter the battle)

Some of these things i won't be able to do myself, or will have a lot of trouble, so either won't be implemented until I either improve more (which happens a lot) or get an NAT better than me (which is hard to find these days :( ).

as i was reading your post, i found out you have a similar system, so i thought it was nessercary to reply with all that, you know what our fellow graalians are like, but nice idea for your system anyway ;) lol.

I'm sure there is simply no comparison between falco's so called "battle system" and your turn based battle system

MASTERCOLA 02-09-2005 05:34 AM

well as long as it is settled :) mer

maybe not currently, but our's will be awesome when fully completed and everything is implemented.

UPDATES:

Added the system to jellies.

Fixed the bug where when you warp back form battle your level is random.

jcw96 02-11-2005 10:20 PM

yeah its kind of FF cliche...

falco10291029 02-11-2005 10:22 PM

It's nothing like FF, what are you blathering about?
