Darkening certain tiles

How would you go about darkening only certain lines?

For example, this attachement needs to have the lines be blacker, and the backround whiter. I've tried it, but it never works..

I also suddenly found out that tiles should be changed to pixels. x.x

Take it into photoshop and trace it.

Contrast would make the grain of the paper pop out, and might enhance the shadow on the left. Levels I say! LEVELS!
