Paint

Ok, I'm not even sure paint supports it, but how do you add tranperancy(sp?) in ms paint?

Polo 01-20-2005 11:59 AM

You cant.

Goboom 01-20-2005 02:00 PM

I believe there is a "hack" that will allow you to do it. I am not sure though.

There is a trick..
Its like saving as a certain filetype first
then painting the areas that should be transparent black and saving it as GIF..
Not sure though

You can do it in paint... At the bottom next to the pallette there are two overlaping squares (Paint and eraser colour?) inside a larger square... What ever colour is inside that larger square is your transparent colour. I used to know how to set that colour in Win98's version of Paint... I don't use Paint anymore though, and it might be different for XP's version.

In XP, you hold Ctrl while clicking the color.

BMPs don't support Transparency, Snake.
[EDIT]
On a side note: all the formats that do support transparency in paint suck because they're low bit... usually 8.
[/EDIT]
[EDIT]
I tried both methods suggest here, and I could not make my MS Paint save with a transparent color. I'm using Windows XP Pro
[/EDIT]

Did you try unchecking Image>Draw Opaque? I just tried, let's test.

Edit: Weird, it doesn't look like it works. There has to be a way. I did it in 98's version. Why would they remove a function like that?

Edit2: Damn forum code! I hate square brackets! Pointy brackets for life! >.<

Ah when I used to use paint for setting transparency (in Win95 or so) I only ever used pitch black (0,0,0) and it worked fine...but only as long as you were saving as .GIF. It had crappy png transparency support...at least when viewed in Graal...

I havent tried doing it in XP, I suppose I'll give it a shot when I am in front of my own computer later. But regardless I dont think its worth the effort. Saving isnt really one of paint's strong points.

GoBoom, tell us more of this "Hack" for Paint

Alright, set background transparency color to a bright green.

Attaching png and gif versions both saved with paint.

Edit:

... well I guess I'll have to play around with it a bit more lol

Just save as gif with a decent gif saving program, and use Graal's gif2mng program. Just do that..

those are pretty gfx, Zen. The perspective is very good.

A'right new question, where the heck is the transparancy feature in psp 9?
