Is it bad? You be the judge.

I've never really done any levels before, but this little classic project I am working on has me shoveling my way through alot of levels trying to make them look more presentable, and I was just wondering about the quality of my work.

So, as a non LAT type developer who is suddenly forced to produce alot of levels, I present to you a sample for the judging. Tell me, is it bad?

syltburk 01-17-2005 01:51 PM

I dont like it at all.

Snakeandy7 01-17-2005 01:54 PM

The inside house is a problem, same with the entrence to the cave in a forest.
Other than that it is good.

What's wrong with the inside house? :o

Snakeandy7 01-17-2005 05:14 PM

You have a cliff as it's wall :[

Shaun 01-17-2005 05:31 PM

I don't like the outside at all, but I like what you tried to do with the inside. Unfortunately, there are still many, many tile errors. The creativity demonstrated on the inside is, however, a pleasant surprise.

:)
There are alot of tile errors both inside and out though, alot with the posts...try chopping off the rounded bottom if it isnt going to be in grass, and using a different top that isnt for grass also (in the places that you used it that isnt green at the top)

Crono 01-17-2005 07:02 PM

The first one isnt THAT bad, we need to get some of that old bright level style back to set a real graal mood. :x

Thank you, creativity is about the only thing I have going for me. >_<

Well, as far as the 3-4 green pixels that don't belong, I don't think it's going to kill anyone. :) The post serve thier purpose and give the right effect. :\

The general consensus seems to be that my outdoors levels stink, darn, I thought they looked very foresty. x_x

WanDaMan 01-17-2005 07:45 PM

Both are very nice, should add some light effects and stuff :)

I must sleep now, I've done alot, and I have alot more to do. :)

syltburk 01-17-2005 08:28 PM

damn 3 posts in a row, wan wtf are u thinking? very nice? look at the levels again.. look at the obvious tile errors ... tiling..

WanDaMan 01-17-2005 09:05 PM

I still think it's very creative, there is one or two obvious tile errors but apart from that the levels are pretty decent.

DarkShadows_Legend 01-17-2005 09:12 PM

I like the first level. The house inside I don't like too much.

He's probably using Hybrid mode or whatever it's called.

Anyway, I like the cliffs on the inside level. Just work on pulling it all together. Some tiles should be removed and replaced with small NPCs, such as for some of the posts (so you can walk under the tops of them), and the lamp in the inside level.

Snakeandy7 01-17-2005 10:05 PM

The tank owned :P.
But yeh, insides are not made for creativity :[

Did you miss the part where he said he has never really done levels before? Really, the levels are not that bad, just some tile errors here and there

I don't really like the levels, but it was a very, very nice try. :)
Things in blue are things that should be changed/fixed. Things in red are tile errors and need to be fixed or removed.

As much as we'd all like to think that the tileset is complete with universal transitions for any other tile, it is not, and I don't think 1-2 mismatched pixels on a tile that otherwise fits the area classfies as a tile error, a pixel error, maybe.

Crono 01-18-2005 04:51 PM

Actually the tileset is more complete than you think. Hell if the tileset fails then use npc images. ;)

zell12 01-18-2005 05:09 PM

Exactly. :)

Curt1zzle 01-19-2005 03:41 AM

Creative, but several tile errors as others have mentioned.

HoudiniMan 01-19-2005 01:49 PM

I like the house doors, the rest of it is just okay.

zell12 01-19-2005 08:13 PM

In reply to your message in your black box:

The half-grass tiles are errors.
The windows are errors.
The fence posts on the trees are errors.

There is many, but you need to play with them to make them fit correctly, and if you can't, make an image.

I don't really need to change them, I like them, and they serve their purpose, but thanks for the input. :) I tried applying some of you suggestions in some other levels, here, tell me what you think. :D

Oooh... We should all shun him for using a diagonal road, don't you think?

Me to, so true. :P
It's a nice level. Aethorpe, don't let people tell you what you should and shouldn't change. It's your level, keep it how you want it.

Yeah, lets not ask for help and advice on our levels. We learn so much like that.

I didn't ask for help and advice, I asked for opinions on quality. :)

EikeSiewertsen 01-21-2005 02:21 PM

Besides these tile errors I really like your levels, they aren't as empty as all these other levels that get posted/put on playerworlds.

syltburk 01-21-2005 03:08 PM

The quality is bad.

You were asking what was wrong with the house insides, so I figured i'd do both.

Ok, we've determined that the quality is bad, but that is due to my nature and I personally believe that even if a few tiles don't line up right, they are still fully function levels that display the images created in my head. They do their job. :)

Not that I am implying I don't want to hear your opinion, believe me, I do, but you already gave this same opinion previously in the thread, so it seems a bit redundant to give it again. Although, it is your right to do so, if it floats your boat. ^^
