Level Generator.. Map Generator?

So, I used the level generator, and I generated a bunch of very nice template levels, but I'd like to be able to see a map when I press M. Can anyone suggest what I should do to make that happen? :)

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 07:54 PM

In 'training' (Development) press "M".

Omg, in the level editor? Wow, I never though of that, thanks. :D

Edit: Bah, ok now where does the map.png have to be located in order to work?

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:11 PM

Save it where the levels are kept, you'll then be able to see the map whilst in game pressing M.

Post your new map ;)

It doesn't seem to be showing the map when I press M, and it is saved in the same spot as the levels, are you sure that's all I have to do?

Wierd, it seems to be exporting the maps as just big black squares rather than a view of the levels.

:| What am I doing wrong?

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:17 PM

Close down Graal and try it again.

Should I have all the levels loaded in the editor when I press M? Or is one good enough?

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:21 PM

Only one is needed, make sure it's a map when you do it though or it won't work...

Make sure what is a map when I do it? :O

Make sure you see a blue cursor in training. The blue cursor is probably the most obvious way to check if you're in map mode (that blue direction thingy in the center).

I definately am not in map mode, how do I get into map mode? :o

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:32 PM

What is the name of your GMap?

AE-R1.gmap

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:36 PM

Add this to a level, personally I use the top left level.

NPC Code:

//#CLIENTSIDE
if(created) loadmap AE-R1;

I havn't made a GMap in a few months, if that dosn't work try this:

NPC Code:

//#CLIENTSIDE
if(created) loadmap AE-R1.gmap;

After you've done this, save, press 'play' then press 'f4' and check if the blue cursor is there.

Did you shrink it in paint of something? >_<

Looks good :), might want to make the water a bit bigger though..

Nope, it's not shrunk in paint or anything, that's how it is in my folder. :O

It's 100 levels, 10x10. :)

WanDaMan 01-16-2005 08:44 PM

Open your GMap in a TextDocument, you'll see some information you'll need to edit / add to do that.

Thanks, here is 4 of them together, I am going to start detailing now. :D

I was wondering, is there a way to just do like "disable fog of war" kinda thing for while I am building offline? :P

GoZelda 01-16-2005 10:05 PM

There is no such thing as 'fog of war'

Well, there is on the map, it hides places you haven't visited, that's called "fog of war".

Ah like that. I never knew people use to call that fog of war. I don't think you can get rid of it.

Pooka 01-17-2005 01:42 AM

That map is unusually pleasing to look at, I think it's the lake/water shapes.

What's it for?

My little return to classic project, I am gunna make this uber elaborate world offline that is all classic and stuff, old school graal gameplay, then, if I like it enough, I might buy a server. :P

Scott 01-17-2005 07:12 AM

Aethorpe, you are the most pleasant person to hit the Graal Development community in awhile. Awesome. Good luck with this.

haunter 01-17-2005 07:13 AM

Neat. That's going to take you a while though. You do plan on adding cliffs though, right? o.o;

Luciano 01-17-2005 07:24 AM

I agree, it looks very nice. You seem like a pleasant guy aswell.

Well, I know there's a way online, but I'm really not sure about offline :\

My word. :eek:

Thank you Scott, and Luciano. ^^

It's not a big deal Luciano, I made a horse and ran around all 400 levels, it was just a pain in the bum, that's all. >_<

Well, yes, eventually I will add cliffs. :D This is just the foresty area, after I finish fixing tile errors and adding some detail and some content, I am gunna make another 200 levels and slap it on there along with these. :D

I want it to be really big, with lots of scattered content, rather than a tiny thing with all the content mashed together. :) So it doesn't feel like it's planned, like there will be alot of areas that are just open wilds, with random spawns of monsters and baddies about. :) Or maybe a little campsite, or farm house to break it up a bit. :) Not everything has to be loaded with content, it could just add to the environment. :D

Oh my god, six smilies.

Snakeandy7 01-17-2005 11:10 AM

Post updates :cool:

GoZelda 01-17-2005 07:39 PM

I basically agree with everyone in this thread:
You rock, and post updates.

Aethorpe 01-22-2005 09:09 PM

When I place baddies on the gmap they are invisible, this doesn't seem normal. :eek:

Don't use default baddies. They're fugly. You should script your own. You're probably going to need a server for that though.
