Modification of forum policy for Xmas

We are preparing lot of new features for Xmas and i was thinking to let non VIP/Gold players to subscribe to forums but we will apply some restrictions so the forum are not spammed.

The first restriction i was thinking about is limiting the sending of messages to 3 each day.

What's your point of view ?

Rufus 12-07-2004 02:20 PM

I think that is a good idea, as discussed in the other topic it would liven up the forums a bit I think.

Spark910 12-07-2004 02:25 PM

As long as trial accounts cant, then it should be okay.
And 3 messages a day.. hmm.. I'd make it 5 >_<

Well, I was thinking the 'Classic/Life-time' accounts, but maybe it included Trials too.

Minoc 12-07-2004 02:41 PM

3-5 posts\day seems pretty decent, but I still think there should be full access to Tech Support and Future Improvements.

A non VIP/Gold is either trial or Classic, I assume he means Classic.

True, it should be unlimited here, and users who abuse it to post threads not related to that section can just recieve a ban.

Zero Hour 12-07-2004 03:01 PM

I think classic accounts being able to post 3 times a day is an excellent idea! But they should be limited to certain forums :D

calum 12-07-2004 03:09 PM

How about not letting them have an avatar picture or signature?

Minoc 12-07-2004 03:33 PM

How could that possibly matter?

syltburk 12-07-2004 03:33 PM

lol but this ruins almost the whole idea to re-upgrade again... this just takes away one feature in the sign up?
Anyway its okay but dont expect to get any smart people here, a lot of people is gonna spam level forum with bad levels stupid questions and ranting.. Even if it is only 3-5 posts its gonna be stupid enough to make me feel "wow this forum have never been this low"
But yeah, it could be a nice idea.

Crono 12-07-2004 04:42 PM

But us Gold/VIP's should get something in return to "even it out"

It keeps the balance.

Kaimetsu 12-07-2004 04:45 PM

As a possible alternative, we could specify that they can only post on certain days? For many users, a daily post limit wouldn't be a particularly large hindrance.

And yeah. disallowing sigs/avatars might be nice, to provide an incentive to upgrade.

Mykel 12-07-2004 05:04 PM

How about getting a new mod for this? Orrrrr....getting an old one back? *cough*

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 05:19 PM

I like the idea :D
5 posts

osrs 12-07-2004 05:27 PM

I like the idea, maybe it will bring more people to Graal forums. (Gold people)
The moderators will have to be more active, I suppose.

Admins 12-07-2004 05:29 PM

Don't let them spam the tech support / suggestions forum, so there should be limits too. Actually I think they should be limited to special forums like the main forum, non-graal related, tech support so it is easier for the mods.

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 05:31 PM

well what if they own a server and they want to advertise for help? by limitations there's going to be more spam..

Id personally say:
-TechSupport/Suggestions
-Playerworlds
-Graal main forum

If they want to chat about None-graal things, which is where alot of posts are, they need to upgrade. On top of that having no sig/avatar as suggested would be good. And yeah, I agree Jaffer - 5 I guess is quite alot of posts. Maybe just the 3 as suggested.

Galdor 12-07-2004 06:29 PM

let them post unlimited but only in graal and non graal related and the development forums and the playerworld forums =]

Then what incentive is there to upgrade?

Galdor 12-07-2004 06:45 PM

>.> umm you can play graal 3d and kingdoms and so on if you upgrades...

Googi 12-07-2004 06:51 PM

Of course, if it didn't work, it would always be possible to undo it.

Benm00t 12-07-2004 06:53 PM

I don't think there should be a cap on the amount of posts. As long as there are strict rules, such as "No first warning, banned right away" i think there wont be much spamming or whatnot.

And limiting what forums they get is a good idea too.

I don't think there will be many people who will upgrade just to get extra forum privileges. Like Galdor said, they will want to upgrade for Kingdoms and 3D.

Also true (i think :-o)... there really isn't that much to lose by at least just testing this out.

Until you strip away most of the exclusivity from those too, right?

If they own a server they would have to have either Gold or VIP, in which case they would be able to post in all the forums.

Haha yeah so VIP is even more useless ^^

how can they own (pay) for a server but not a gold or vip?

Skyld 12-07-2004 07:46 PM

It could be made so that the Classic members could post, say 5 times in one day anywhere and unlimited posts in one certain section, but the trials only post in that same certain section to retain sanity throughout the forums?

Mykel 12-07-2004 08:01 PM

I don't upgrade for Kingdoms or Graal3D.

I do for the forums. There would be no need for me to do so if I could practically post freely without being upgraded.

Zero Hour 12-07-2004 09:03 PM

Yea, the forums are one of the main attractions for me, but I also upgraded for GK.

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 10:07 PM

well look at wan, he owns a server which isn't online and he dosnt have a p2p..

and i mean, if you have limitations to it like only post in 3 forums they'll post in the 3 they're allowed to post in with stuff related to another forum..

either pick carefully or do what Galdor said

He couldn't possibly have access to the server without a VIP account, so I highly doubt it.

If they break the rules - ban them. You must remember that these are Classic players, not trial.

LordZen 12-07-2004 10:12 PM

Make some obvious distinction attached to posts made by classic/life-time accounts. Like, their title under their username would be "Classic Account" (example), and it could not be changed.

If there was an obvious distinction made on posts of such users than I would have little problem with them being allowed to post in all of the development and playerworld sections. It would be a simple matter to identify and purge classic level users who are abusing their previlages.

It would be a good idea to disallow them from posting in the Non-Graal Related section, I agree. It already has high traffic, doesn't need an influx of 200 new people posting random BS.

Edit for Minoc:

Um, when you buy a server, I believe you receive a local adminworld account that garauntees access to your server specifically.

Read again, he said the PW isn't online.

Minoc 12-07-2004 10:14 PM

There could also be a restriction of 1\2 new threads a week.

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 11:35 PM

all im saying is people will be posting inapropriate stuff in the wrong forum if you only allow them to post in certain forums.

So such people would be banned - problem solved.

xAndrewx 12-07-2004 11:40 PM

ditto. it wouldn't be fair if they're all limited to several forums.. 3 - 5 posts a day is perfect in all forums.

about the moderating, you have atleast 20 people who have access to the secret forums so just give them powers or something >_<

Slash-P2P 12-08-2004 12:34 AM

Have a Guest board where Classic/VIP/Gold can post. It would be like all the other boards combined and can be deleted eventually.
