Gani movie... how to display?

Okay, I'm just messing around with gani movies yet for some reason, I can't get any of them to actually show the characters ingame. Why is that and what do I have to do to fix it?

For example, I have a gani which shows several predefined sprites, as well as some characters. The sprites appear but the characters and their chat text and everything are nowhere to be found... What's going on?

Isn't it documented in newfeatures.txt?

Perhaps post the gani and basic script you're using to show the ani. I haven't come across such a problem and I'm having a difficult time trying to produce it.

I'm using setcharani and this is offline, and it's just a gani movie with a person walking around and such.

Am I supposed to set all the attributes for the head and body and all of that outside of the gani? I mean, I thought the gani movie would just play and all that would be set. Since you set that information in the Actor thing on the right side of the gani movie.

It's really confusing me. Sprites that I define show up just fine but not the characters... and no... there's not really any documentation on gani movies in newfeatures. I don't really need documentation for how to make a gani movie or anything, I need to know why the characters aren't showing up via the gani playing on a level.

I believe you are supposed to use setani instead of setcharani

I've never even seen a gani movie be done before, interesting enough.

Isn't the start movie of GK a gani movie?

Have you tried:
showani index,x,y,dir,gani;

Neither of those should matter. I tried it with setcharani and showani and it worked fine, with and without a showcharacter.

Egads! I forgot to test for playerlook!
Yeah, I see only a shadow where the actor should be when I don't have the attributes defined in the npc. That's most likely the problem.

When I used setani I saw actors and sprites, but with setcharani I only saw sprites :/

Depends if you have playerlook=true for an actor and if the npc has attributes, other than that it makes no difference. The gani just needs attributes to reference.
yeah my other post seems off now

The attached gani works fine in game, maybe you can look at the script and see if there's anything different to yours?

On Kingdoms we use it mainly for the start movie, for the jobs (producing items, using the windmill), and when going through gates. It's good for situations where you want do some "cut scene": you freeze the player and set the animation to a gani movie. It's nice for giving npcs some life too.
