Shifting Ages Release! Read more...
Soul blade has desided to stop work on shifting ages, he has released it enjoy. Here is what he said in his exact words.
"Hello! I know it has been a while since anyone has heard any word on SA, but he is the deal: It is now released. I am not releasing it because it is finished, and all work on it will now cease. I want to show I have made something, and it was so close to being playable, but it will be far to much work to salvage. Basically, you will need a super computer to play it at optimum. I will not explain controls and gameplay features, I will let you figure it all out; it is a little to comprehensive and difficult to explain. As playing keep in mind this game was not finished, and it never will be. I will never work on this space game again, but it has prove EXTREMELY useful. My Past PW projects have each taught me a lesson, and with this project that has combined all my graphical, scripting, and design skills, I have learned the limits to what I can/should do, and the importance of optimization. If you look at the reasource files for SA, you will understand. The game will have glitches, it will have errors, and they will not be fixed. I just want people to see what I made, and what is possible on graal. It could have been alot better had I not made the graphics the quality I made it, but I know that now and in the future I will not fail again. It is a Classic UC world which means all those people without upgraded accounts can also play it. To play it, go to classic tab and type in on the drop down box: Shifting Ages You will be brought to the downloading screen. It is 20 mb, so just wait for everything to download. It may take a while. That is all...after most people are bored of it I will be taking it down and uploading new stuff for testing out my next project. My next project will embody all that I've learned, and it will not fail. More information about that later. Thank you, -Soul Blade" |
Cool. *Logs on*
It's totally different than what I thought it would be...I remember it being kind of old? With like pick axes and stuff? I know some of you have seen the screenshot...Where the guy is on the cliff? That download makes me want to kill someone.. |

I have checked it, it is very good. Besides the lag, everything is perfect.
|
Indeed, if not for the lag it would be insanely fun.
Even in my one-on-one screening it was way too laggy to play, I can only imagine what it'd be like to have 5 players on, or so. Cool that other people get to see what he's worked so hard on, though. |

Interesting disclaimer.
|
It's fun .
|
Fun, I was playing earlier. I was lagging like a son of a cat though. ):
|
No offense or anything, But I fail to see the point in creating non-Graal games with the Graal engine. :\

I want to test with other people :\

Looks pretty interesting.
I appreciate the possibility to customise the controls a lot, though I seem unable to assign most keys to things. Also, the controls were reset when I entered and left my ship. There seem to be a lot of issues with properly hiding showimgs and stuff. I am now flying my ship through my ship with stars all over the controls. Once you fix these issues and can improve the performance a bit, it will be great. |
Did you even read the first post loriel?;o
|
As a matter of fact, I did!
|
Wait, so I'm not special anymore? Darn. Hmm, I was really looking forward to seeing how this would end up. You definitely have a nice set up, would have made a rather interesting PW.

Why bother going through all the trouble not to even finish it... x_x You should just take some time to finish it. The screenshot looked quite nice, but I have not had a hcance to look at it. The v3 client for linux is too bugged for me to want to be on player often, so until I can get the linux binary for a better version I don't think I'll be playing anytime soon.
|
I think the point of him releasing the pw now, even though he has no intention on finishing it, is to show what he CAN do, and what he HAS done...as it says in the very first post

Moonie I agree, But what's the point in 'showing off' if your going to quit graal.
He did this because he know's he could take graal further in playerworld development. |

Atleast, that's what I sawed. |

possibly because he saw no future for it?
|
or to get lots of people to talk about it and say "no no no, we want it to continue!!! PLEASE DO KEEP GOING!" so he feels good and continues :)
|
you didnt need to have 128 different angles for the ships! i think 16-36 angles would have been good enough.
the gfx arent THAT great.. but man i had high hopes for this.. You need to play Escape Velocity and then bang your face into the wall as to why they didnt make it into an online game. this was my vision of SA. |
It's definitely a cool server but i got a huge bug where it warped my ship inside my ship then i undticked and 3 menus are popped up and i cant move and a **** is under me :'(. Geuss im not palying anymore. Also my point of view on using the graal client to make it: With all the built in commands, its MUCH easier to make a very different game using gscript as your basis then to program from scratch. I would like to see this made it is a very good idea.

Great Idea, Bad work.

No, he made a non-Graal game on a Graal server. It's stupid and pointless.
|
No it isn't, like i said grala makes it easy to do those things, youll note his game uses gscript. It is much more efficient to use graal's basic engine to make a new game.

lol @ thrash making fun of SOMEONE else
|
yea, like he could even script a system what says hi anyway.
|
It's different and thats great but it's not my favorite style of servers. But Soul-Blade did a good job. I hope his work pleases SOMEONE out there.
|
Awesome Soul Blade.
You've demonstrated the potential of the Graal engine :) |
Uh. Buggy stuff, but I love the spaceship turning and stuff. Is it a ****load of directions sprite sheet, or actually rendered in Graal?
