Survey: What's Your Idea Playerworld?
So what's your idea playerworld that you've yet to see? I would really like to know what you Graalians think so if you're reading this and thinking about not replying 'cause it's a long post then I'll be forced to hunt you down. Some things I myself and others would probably like to know:

Note: Please make sure to add anything else you would like to if you didn't have a chance to when answering the survey. Thanks again. :) |
P.S. He has a ulterior motive. (He wants to maek a serber.)
|
1. Tilesets: Fully customized to suit the style of the playerworld.
2. NPCs: Depends on the server's style of gameplay. Both are fine. 3. Graphics: Once again, whatever proves to be most suited to the style. 4. Playerworld Style/Theme: Anything but Old West, or Egyptian. 5. Staff: Productive, active staff. Also a plus if staff are integrated into the server's story (if it so suits the style) instead of out-of-place beings of power. 6. World Maps: Smaller maps with great detail. There are always ways to expand on a small map. 7. Special Events: If I'm on an RPing server I don't want to see "holdin bush warz cum 2 me 2 play." If it's a classic style server it's acceptable as long as the games are accessible and fun. 8. Gameplay Type: Usually a bit of RPing mixed with adventure. However, I found Zone's gameplay to be quite fun but it could have used more varied maps. 9. Content: Preferably weekly additions. Even little things like hangouts are neat, each update doesn't need to be a quest or anything. If not weekly than monthly but, of course, much larger in scale so that most players would spend the whole month seeing it all and always have something new to find. 10. Currency/Economy: An economy is always good as long as it's balanced and money isn't insanely hard to obtain. Too lazy to think of another question...so el fin. Edit: I know, but hopefully he will, with good suggestions, make an awesome playerworld and the children shall shout with joy. |
Tilesets: Fully customized. I find that when you have many servers using the same tileset, it is extremely hard to immerse yourself in the enviornment.
Items (Improperly labeled as NPCs): I prefer a mix of the system, ala Zelda 3's items and magic system. Graphics: Doesn't really matter, as long as it matches the tileset, and provides some degree of immersiveness. Style/Theme: As long as it's enjoyable, I could care less. I do however think that a server should stick to it's theme -- instead of becoming like Graal2001 Theme park-ish. Staff: Extremely minimal staff with restricted powers. This means no warping or 'unlawful' gaining of items. World Maps: Medium -- both ends of the extremes arn't very enjoyable. The maps should reflect the theme of the server. Special Events: Events are annoying. The only events should exist should fully be within the world's theme -- nothing out of character. Gameplay Type: Again, as most of the previous ones, it should be whatever makes best use of the playerworld theme. Content: New updates should only be added when they are *finished*. That's about all I can say. Currency/Economy: Yes, I do prefer these, as long as the economic model is stable and not prone to abuse. |
1. Tilesets: Oasis style :-)
2. NPCs: Levelling but not restricted. Allow players to expand stuff (classes = yuck) 3. Graphics: Anime style (like Oasis) 4. Playerworld Style/Theme: Anything that is made GOOD. 5. Staff: Few staff who are reliable and on constantly. 6. World Maps: Kinda smushed together in towns, but on the way to other towns it should be scenic. 7. Special Events: ET's host an event on a REGULAR basis (Atleast 1 huge event a week) 8. Gameplay Type: cartoon playerworld with anime-esque animals that can hit each other with mallets and chat bubbles come up with Japanese writing :P 9. Content: Little things every week or so, but BIG things every month or so. 10. Currency/Economy: Money is not easy to obtain, and things cost a lot. |
Very detailed responses. Thank you. I can conclude a lot from these questionnaires which will prove useful in assessing the playerworld criteria I must meet.
I do want to make a server and that's the reason for all of these silly questions. :) |
You need GREAT GAMEPLAY. I don't care what it is, but it should be fun, addicting, team work based, and just totally original.

I like these type of threads.
|
1. Tilesets: Like the tilesets I make, boo for topdown graal, hooray for new camera angles.
2. NPCs: I prefer to toss the old graal concept out the window, that questing style is horrible. Monsters should drop semi-randomly generated items and you should earn "points" for kills and other various tasks, allowing you to learn new skills and increase your attributes. 3. Graphics: Unique, try something new, I am tired of seeing the same old player bodies/heads. 4. Playerworld Style/Theme: Post-Apocalyptic, kind of 80s-esque of so many movies that were produced in that genre. 5. Staff: Lots of staff is bad, but having a minimum 1-2 people on at all times is a good thing, so pick your staff well, have people who play at varying schedules, 8am - 2-3pm, 2-3pm - 8-10pm, 8-10pm - 6-8am, etc, very easily done, considering the mix of players from the americas and europe etc. 6. World Maps: I prefer a huge map to start with, NOT island based, with constant updates that expand the world. 7. Special Events: Storyline and major serverwide events, like a dark shadow rolling across the land at the release of a dark god of the underworld, and it stays that way until it is slain (which may take weeks), etc, not some stupid retard trivia hour. Cities should be destroyed with attacks from the sky etc, and the maps should really change and be a crater from such day forward. 8. Gameplay Type: I prefer mass monster slaying, come to town, sell your good, upgrade your equipment, repair, buy some more ammo for your crossbow etc and head back out for more, full PvP, there is no "battle mode" or "PK zone" anywhere in the world, if someone pisses you off, whack them, but to prevent overuse of PK for no reason, if you kill someone, you should be flagged a murderer, and the next time you go to a town you will be attacked by guards, if they knock you unconcious, you spend a week in jail, gametime, not logged off. :) 9. Content: regular updates of decent size bi-weekly/monthly 10. Currency/Economy: The economy should be based on salvaging scrap parts and non-functional machinery, hunting animals for hides and meat and bones, murdering and pillaging (for those powerful enough to maintain the lifestyle), and selling unique craftable goods, Super Mega Ultra Bonus Question: Should there be set classes, or can people build unique characters as they play? / Unique damnit, how much do I have to stress this, stop being a cliche and make a server worth playing. I have too much creativity and not enough scripting skill or time off of work to make it happen. :| I have alot more really detailed ideas, but I am not gunna start tossing them around, because I still have plans to use them myself when I have more time. Pfft, anyone hiring creative concepts and design staff? Probably not. CCD > GAT + NAT + LAT, for the win! |
1. Tilesets: Original.
2. NPCs: Classic. 3. Graphics: Classic. 4. Playerworld Style/Theme: Classic. 5. Staff: A few admins. 6. World Maps: Start small in the middle and expand outwards. 7. Special Events: As long as it doesn't dominate the server, fine. 8. Gameplay Type: Classic. 9. Content: Whenever it's done. 10. Currency/Economy: No. Jobs are overdone and boring. Can you tell I like graal for graal? |
Reviving threads are we.
|
1. Tilesets: Original Graal tileset with a bit of spicing up.
2. NPCs: Interactive areas with townspeople who randomly say different things, wildlife and monsters roam about, the world feels as if it's alive and constantly changing even when you're not there to see it. 3. Graphics: Graphics should stay pure to the original "look" and "feel" that Graal has maintained for several years. 4. Playerworld Style/Theme: All out questing with a splash of RPG elements that motivate you to diversify yourself from other players in the world. There should be a set theme and you should no go out of that boundry. For example, no guns and swords, unless it's an advanced modern setting like Final Fantasy 7. 5. Staff: Staff should be minimal and trusted with their power. Even if the staff member could script a clone of Windows XP that does not mean they can be trusted with the power associated with their job. Trust is not as expendable as power. 6. World Maps: I think that world maps are very important. Location is everything when it comes to a game. The world must be appealing and present itself as vast, but fun to adventure in. I also believe that islands and continents are too spaced out, there should be a big valley or just map that expands and is very scenic along your outward adventures, hehe. 7. Special Events: There should be events that change the world's appearance, these could be story driven events or in some matters player driven events! Other events could be tournaments for fishing, swordplay and so on. Some events could be held yearly, well, you get the idea. :) 8. Gameplay Type: See Raelyn's post. 9. Content: There should be a large update every month with lots of small updates, medium updates and large updates! This could work like EQ expansions and so on. This would be really exciting to look forward to as well. 10. Currency/Economy: Money should be scarce and in the form of tradeable items and what not. The economy should not be the sole purpose of the game, but an optional way of participating in the playerworld's constantly changing surroundings. If you have enough money then you should be able to purchase a House Deed and begin gather materials to build a home of your own. Things should work like that. |
