Scripting Support.
We have been discussing on Graal2002 Debug server and have noticed that the quality of the scripting on playerworlds is pretty bad, there are exceptions, of course, but it would be very interesting if every playerworld could produce a proper quality of scripting. This way, it would reduce the lag and the playing would be much better. After discussing for some time, we have decided to get a team of skilled scripters wich will be producing some documents and codes with the deal of helping the whole community. The current team consists of myself and Master Storm (Manager of Classic Graal), and the Global Scripting Team will be supporting us too. This is an official decision, you can be sure that we will be doing our best to help you improve your abilities and of course it will help your playerworld.
How to help: If you are really interested, contact us and show your work. It must be uploaded in some playerworld, we won't be receiving e-mails with codes or things like that. The only way for trying out is contacting the team and telling the member to see your work at a specified playerworld. Note: This is not a global job, you won't get any special rights for being in the team. |
I think that is a very good idea and I hope it works out.
|
First. Why create this when the Global Scripting Team already exists? Are you not obviating their existence?
Second. http://www.bancomicsans.com/ |
Hmm, well, if you guys do decide to form a team, then i would definately like to be a part of it.
|
Well actually Rick is right, and if they need a little more help why not just have a tryout for 1-2 more members?

Well, personally, i think the GST could use about another one or two members. This idea is good, but, it really should be done by the experienced scripters. Like a weekly inspection, where the team members go from server to server and guide the scripters of that server into making less laggy/more organized scripts. |

I think that this could be fun. Server hopping helping servers improve on there npc's. The only problem is that the team needs people who know what there doing and not people who still are beginners when it comes to scripting.
Maybe the GST and/or Stefan should pick the team?, not just random people. |

I'm sure that Stefan would not agree with this project if the "random people" weren't skilled, also, we will be choosing the members, it's not just say "I want to be in". |
Stefan did pick me and osrs, and we're not scripting beginners. Whereas the GST is there to advise people when scripting, our job is to help people learn to script from scratch, or to teach them new skills. We wont have the power to go round server hopping or so, were simply here to make documents so that people stop producing dodgy buggy script, or even worse, using other peoples work.
|
Then why is there a need for an official group? Why not just write these documents yourselves in collaboration without a useless title?

I had edited my post before you decided to quote it, because i relised that i had made a mistake. I meant the Scripting Support Team not the GST. |

Why are you so worried Rick? Our intention is help.

Hey MS you can start by teaching me to script from scratch :)

Pfft. I give it two weeks, max.

You're way too generous. |
It's just something else to get noticed for =(

I think it's a good idea, but the GST should be doing this. They don't need to server hop and correct mistakes, but they should be able to handle making documents because that is part of why they're around.

(Wrong forum.)
This is not completely redundant. Yes, it overlaps a bit with what we have done before ([1], [2]), but if they can get ahold of some competent scripters that can focus on this one task, it is certainly going to be more productive sooner. As pointed out, the GST does not have the time to teach scripting to everybody. Among more administrative tasks, yes, we do of course give advice on request or while reviewing or fixing a playerworld's problem. But unless you want a more or less complete halt of everything else, the GST is not able to do this team's job (although we will gladly provide help if neccessary). |
I'm kind of wondering why I was not brought up to date on this until I get a random IM on my Private AIM asking if I would support them for GST, and then asked to read this forum x.x
But about working on documents. Perhaps if Stefan or unix gave us access to put up documents on the site or so, we'd actually have a bigger reason to. Not a horrible idea to have documents written, but I'd like to have some say and review before they are released. I've seen advanced scripters make efficiency mistakes (including myself at times), so it should be finalized and revised before released. Gotta run to class now, will say more later. This is just the beginning of some things about to take place. Myself, Osrs, and Polo are all working together on the project. And then if Stefan told me correctly we are going to do the same thing with Level Makers. Then possibly Graphics. Not totally sure yet. But as of right now we are looking for scriptors to help make the graal community more scripting literate. The GST is very busy as Loriel said. They have a lot of other things on their platter they have to do so it is not possible for them to do this. I hope some scriptors will step up to the task and try out. Contact either myself, Polo, or Osrs. All my contacts are in my sig.
Edit: All the documents that are created I believe are going to go through Stefan, Loriel, and Jagen. I am not sure yet. But they will be proofed before being released. I totally understand exactly what you are saying ProjectShifter. |

It's pretty sad when you want to help people and all you get are negative comments.
