Element

Some of you may know, I own a server called Element.
I just wanted to post that its pretty much open to explore. Everything is beta right now and not much is uploaded. Over time more and more will be added but I just wanted to say, try it out.

Post your comments about the server and if you don't like it, please post a way to make it better. Please don't say something like "It sucks - Delete it to make it better".

You can visit our website at http://playerworld44.graal.net
(Maybe someone could help me get element.graal.net?)

Most of the things you see will be changed for the better.
Try out Element and tell me what you think.

Type "Codename Element" into the server box and connect.

zokemon 09-11-2004 04:24 AM

I don't mean to be harsh, but I went there and wasn't that impressed.
First, you can only choose 4 elements (Light, Fire, Water and Dark, no Earth or Air?!?!).
Second, 2 of your staff were being more then corrupt... They were using commands to pk me and a whole bunch of stuff for no reason at all and telling me how they are so special because they have boots e_e.

There also isn't enough classes. I think you are in alpha? Cause there is diffinetly not enough there to be in bug testing and be done with everything. (aka Beta)

I suggest you get better staff.

Saeyn's write-up of DOOM!
Well, even before logging onto the server I checked out your website.
Judging from the screenshots, it seems you are going for a cartoony-style
look, however, this clashes with the standard Graal tiles and thus just makes
the weapons and terrain look extremely plain. (After writing this I logged onto the server
and found this was no longer true, the terrain has been detailed some.)
Some tree's, and doors, position's were incorrectly set, but aside from that
the start island is not too shabby.

Upon heading into the water I was introduced to a neat little breath/swimming
meter thing. I liked it, a nice, little touch instead of just having a countdown in
the player's chat.

The mouse-over-show-health-by-numbers was nice rather than just seeing a
percentage.

I both like and dislike the name showing system. Perhaps something like staff and
people in your guild show up without having use W or mousing over? Just a thought,
since it might suck for staff to be attacked by normal players who don't know
any better, or something.

Another point, health regens way too slow and, in addition, the health system
doesn't check for hearts (from vases and such) which just seems to prolong the
suffering.

All I could think of. So far, so good, it seems to have some neat aspects but
I can't really judge yet as there are many things I'm sure you are planning on
adding in the near future.

Slash-P2P 09-11-2004 04:37 AM

Thank you but I have some responses:
About the name system, you can lock the name showing by holding W and clicking anywhere. Gold Name = Staff, White = Normal, Green = Guild Member, Red = You, Blue = NPC. Simple to understand. Staf also have an NPC to hold the 'E' key and their HP will rise, as well as auto-revive so its not that big of a problem to be PK'd.

I planned to allow hearts to heal the new HP system which I'll do right now and I'll increase the speed of healing.

never mind my post, I ment Elemental Kingdoms

well i just went on, and well the fighting system is a little odd. i hit someone 10 times with the 'VIP sword' and he hit me 3x and he won. while there was no mainland i could see. name system is a pain also..

>_<
I fixed the VIP Sword.
The mainland is there, but you cannot go to it right now because it's empty.

I logged in...
Dead.
Couldn't un-die.

Oh Hi Slash, weren't you a Zenith/Metropolis NAT?

Dach 09-12-2004 01:40 AM

looks good, there are a few small tweaks here and there to what you have available to play with right now, but overall it seems pretty well done.

You could probably use some softer colors in the gui stuff, the pure colors from showtext/poly are kinda harsh. The message system doesn't seem to like flooding. Instead of wiping all messages out when you hit 51(?), just truncate the old ones. Try killing them as they get pushed out of the window area too. I didn't find anything to test the mouse info system on, but I'd like to see someone add clicking on stuff like grass, water, and trees with silly messages like "now what makes you think this tree would be significant?" or "it's grass... what did you expect?".

*gets high score in Loriel's bounce game*

Yes I was a NAT there.
The system should give you health when you log on.

As for Dach/Chad:
Soon there will be new graphics for the gui and some NPCs.

Your opinion might change soon :-P I know a sword server is like maloria and kingdoms but im trying to set Element aside from those...

I see room for improvement, but you guys seem to be heading in the direction. I am really digging the "air guage" that fills up when you're swimming. Very original idea, at least it's the first I've saw on Graal. The levels are my only compaint and there's not enough interaction between the player and the world. You might need to tune that up a bit. Other than that, it's looking great. Keep up the good work. Slash. Don't leave your playerworld and staff for Oasis neither.

Your tileset isn't really detailed.

I wont leave Element. I just thought Oasis would be cool. Anyways, interaction between NPCs and the player will be improving over time. Over time I'll add ways to give items to npcs and get different items in return. If you have suggestions on how to improve interaction - please post it ;).

If the tileset was like 1 color, come back and see Element now.
I'm having the tileset detailed more. Houses/Trees are also being remade to look better.

I would love to do that but then you'd have all the ideas I plan on using when I create my own playerworld. :)

Just make sure the characters in the game can communication with the player. Animals in the forest should have different reactions too. Simple (but complicated to script ;)) stuff like that can any online game more enjoyable because it gives you a better sense of actually being the world.

I've been working on some npcs that interact to many different actions.
