Is this allowed?
I was online yesterday, as with any other day, and I came across this Graal1.39 server. Of course, curiosity got the best of me, so I went to the site (sources unknown :P), and registered an account with these people, and downloaded their client. After downloading, while I was unzipping the huge 32MB file, I noticed some of the names that were showing up. I saw some "Era"s and some "Haro41"s and some "UnholyNations"s. I spoke with the operator of the server, and he told me that he didn't need permission from these sources, since he was paying his own money to run the server.
That is when I remembered seeing something that was supposedly written by Stefan (I am not sure it was or wasn't him, as it was just posted on a random forum somewhere out in cyberspace) stating that gserver illegal to use now. Not to mention, these little gserver owners are attempting to defeat the purpose of us p2players. GraalOnline is now meant to be a p2p MMORPG, correct? Well, with these 1.28/1.31/1.39 gserver users running around, aren't the payers getting somewhat ripped off by them? I am just wondering if these people are allowed to continue what they're doing. |
Rofl.
1) Remove the link 2) Umm, you just admitted to downloading it yourself. x.X 3) This would have been better in a PM 4) Thanks though. :) |
First off yes it's illegal. Second off 1.39 sucks and this graal version would own it anyday. :)

I heard that 1.39 and later was illegal, but anything before 1.39 was ok. :whatever: Not sure how accurate that is though, it's just what I was reading when I was researching the whole gserver thing. |
I have nothing to lie about. Yes, I downloaded it. It really, to me, is not worth playing, since I am familiar with the newer Graal version, so I really have no use for it. I was more interested in seeing what they were able to do with an older version, than actually playing it myself. And from what I saw, they tryed using a lot of downloaded scripts from Graal2001, but failed. I was just wondering if it was legal for them to be using gserver in the first place.

Nice advertisement.
(Yes, I realize that was probably unintentional, but please remove the link from your post). |

Ya, now that I think about it, it does look like a plug for the server doesn't it? >_< |
How would Era even run on 1.39? I'm pretty sure most of those NPC scripts can't be run in a lot of the earlier builds.

Illegal? Yes.
Should it be? No. Should it be the kind of graal running now? Yes. Where has classic gone. |
It is not allowed to run any gserver online.
Very old Graal versions - 1.28 and 1.3, if I remember correctly - shipped with a gserver.exe that was allowed to be used for local network games, not on the internet. The 1.39 gserver was never given out and is therefore plain stolen software. It is illegal to possess it, and more illegal to run it, and illegal does not mean banhammer-illegal but court-illegal here. It is also not legal to redistribute Graal (client/server) software like they do. Playing on illegal 1.39 gservers is not legal either because this usage of the graal client is not permitted by the licence it is distributed under. Also it is plain foolish to download 1.39 clients from such websites run by antigraalians, as they most likely contain trojan horses or other malicious software. |
