The search function and usernames

Why does the search function only search posts made before the forum upgrade unless you only do a search for posts made by a certain account. Is it a bug?

Also, let 3 letter words work for word searches. :(

MagicalTux 07-12-2004 09:32 AM

It's due to the way vBulletin works... It seems that the "search index" was not converted during the upgrade. It is updated everytime someone posts on the forum.

There is probably a way to rebuild it, but it will take a long time considering the number of posts on the forum...

Also, the limitation of number of letters in the search is due to the same thing.. The search index would be too big if every words was indexed...

MagicalTux 07-12-2004 09:40 AM

OK.. some work was done :
- Now, words are indexed when they are 3 to 20 characters...
- The search index is being rebuilt, it may take some time (will be finished in about 1 or 2 hours...)

Wow, thanks, much appreciated. Is the 3 letter search really a problem? If it is then change it back, I dont want the server to start lagging or something. Its just more helpful for me, because 75% of the time I use the word search its to search for instances of my own name that I go by (zen), or ggt. Its not accurate at all if I do *zen or zen*. And that might not even work anymore, I dont think I've done that since the update.

edit: Strange...it only showed this thread when I did a search for zen, I hope that fixes after the few hours are up..

It's still working on building the indexes....

I've erased the index to rebuild it, but when you post it's still adding your post to the index (but it wont be processed by the rebuild afterward). So only very old and very new posts are shown in the search right now... wait a little longer for me to finish the rebuild and all posts will be visible :)

Your post has number "987442" and it's currently processing posts near 70000... It may take the whole day to re-scan the whole forum....

Xecutor 07-12-2004 10:14 AM

1 day is nothing opposed to 1 month. =). We can wait.

WanDaMan 07-12-2004 11:42 AM

Good work Rob' ;)

Spark910 07-12-2004 11:54 AM

Nice to see that fixed

MagicalTux 07-12-2004 01:43 PM

Right now, processing posts near 340000 ...

(we're near the million of posts on the forum ;) )

Loriel 07-12-2004 04:00 PM

Can we get a free forums account for the millionth post?

MagicalTux 07-12-2004 06:53 PM

mmmh.. strange question Oo
It may cause massive flood on hte forums when we will be near the millionth... not sure if it's a good idea...

(current progress in rebuilding : 650000th post)

MagicalTux 07-13-2004 10:21 AM
