The 2nd Official Graalian Artist's Challenge

I still havent decided on a standard schedule we should do these by, so I guess here's the next one!

-----------------------------------------

For this second OGAC, your task will be to draw...Ice. That can be more tricky than it initially sounds. Consider that ice is usually transparent or can be semi-transparent, in that you can usually see details from sides of the ice that are not facing you. You could go for ice cubes, ice cicles, etc, but NO SNOW. I understand snow is technically ice but I dont really want to see alot of submissions that are predominately shades of white (or yellow :\ ). So anyways, be very creative with this submission. You are not confined to just ice cubes or ice cicles, those were just examples of things that could probably make a good peice. I will probably only be accepting 3 images for the finals this time, and recognize that I will be looking for good creativity, and the ability to show good detail with such a simple and yet difficult subject to truly master. Also, you can draw in some snow, or melted water, but I just dont want that to be "the" subject.

-----------------------------------------

Guidelines:

Subject: Ice of some form. Except snow.
Dimensions: 300x200 pixels maximum
Color Depth: 10 unique colors maximum
Contest Length: present - July 3rd
Number of Submissions allowed: 2
Transparency: Not allowed
Animation: Optional

-----------------------------------------

The rules have been updated so be sure you read them:

Official Graalian Artist's Challenge Rules

1. Only submit your own original work.
2. All submissions may not have pre-existed. Meaning, you may not submit old things you have made in the past. The challenge is meant to involve some actual effort, and therefore your kindly asked to try. :)
3. Color depth includes the transparency color of the image.
4. Submissions are not to be accepted after the end date of the challenge unless a justifiable reason is communicated to LordZen before that date.
5. Do not put your signature in the submission.
6. When allowed to submit multiple images, remember that each participant will only be allowed to have one of those advance to the finals.
7. If you post an image in this contest thread, that will be considered a submission. You will be allowed to delete them, however, if you want a newer version to be considered for the contest.
8. No text descriptions in the submissions, about the submissions. Text is only allowed if it is used as a nessisary or justifiable part of the subject.
9. Arguments and discussions regarding this contest are to be done in a seperate "discussion" thread designated for this contest. Simple comments, however, are OK to post in this thread if it regards an image submitted or is a direct question for LordZen.
10. In the case of 2 or more submissions receiving the same number of votes after the voting period has ended. LordZen must cast a 2nd tie-breaking vote.
I want alot of people trying for this. I dont care if you think your a good artist or that your embarassed or what, the point of this contest is for EVERYBODY to get more involved who usually browses this gfx forum.

Also, the prize will be 5 USD again. Via paypal. But after this time, I think we will have enough to start a list of champions down through the ages  . A permanent sticky stating who won what, along with the winning submission. How does that sound? ^^ (you can respond to that in this thread if you want)

I have only one question, What do you mean spifically by "transparncy not allowed"?

Goboom 06-23-2004 10:50 PM

TAHEE! ANOTHER ONE!
WHAT! NO TRANSPARENCY!
I'm not exempt am I?

No background transparency, or taking an image and changing its opacity I would assume.

LordZen 06-23-2004 10:56 PM

It means simply that I do not want you to have a transparent background or whatever. You will have to design a background for the subject. Or, make it all purple I dont care, but that would look stupid. :D

Changing opacity would be cheating, also. I would rather you are able to convey the appearance of the object being semi-transparent without doing that automatically...but I dont know if I would be able to accurately keep that under check or not so...I guess your on the honor system there.

Edit:

Dang, re-reading through the initial post, I found a couple errors and I realized I forgot a rule. I originally was going to end the contest on the 4th, and I reconsidered that and changed it to the thirth (3th) X__X

Be sure to re-read that first post after a 10th rule is added.
