Server message

Well, since we can't search old posts for the time being, I guess I'll just go ahead and ask again. How do you get the "Server message" window to pop up when you connect? I remember reading an old thread about it, but forgot how to do it. I know it's either "startmessage.rtf" or "servermessage.rtf" (probably .htm/html as well) for the filename, but that's about all I know.

I'm pretty sure its servermessage

Are you saying there's nothing else required? Just the file in a folder? Is the folder specific? Does it need any folder options applied to that folder?

-Ramirez- 06-20-2004 03:47 PM

Come on, surely SOMEONE knows. Servers don't just magically have the window pop up without doing something to cause it to.

You should go on servers that use it and personally ask the staff.

Haha, try to ask the FAQ's since they're know-it-alls >_<!

I've tried... staff apparently find it too difficult to answer this simple of a question. Nobody ever responds. :/

That is what you think.

Eh, as far as I know the document gets cached in your Graal folder, so just check there for the name and upload something with that name to levels/

I've tried it... doesn't work. :(

The only reason I thought it could be startmessage.rtf/html is because Classic had "startmessage.rtf" in their levels folder. It used to work there as well, but it doesn't anymore. I don't know if staff there removed it or what.

startmessage.rtf or .html should work. Put it into your levels folder with the correct script and then say /updatelevel startmessage.rtf or .html (depending on your case). It should then work. To remove it you must update it as well. :)

I think it must be 'levels/startmessage.rtf', but can be in rtf format or html format (rename your html file to rtf and upload to the levels folder). Then do /updatelevel startmessage.rtf and it should work. Most servers use the script command sendpm now because it's more customizable.

I'm doing exactly that and it's still not working. Does it require any folder options on the file type?

... except at least I have html disabled and get annoyed by PWs that do not acknowledge this.

I've switched back to allowing html, since most people have forgotten about the pm that freezes graal
