Their incredibly detailed. I'm impressed.

haunter 05-06-2004 08:21 PM

Cool, but it's all so tiny.

LordZen 05-06-2004 08:22 PM

Donald, quit with the black backgrounds. I know you think it makes the images look better. Well, guess what, they do! But thats because the backgrounds is being confused as some sort of outline (in that it keeps it from being confused with whatever its laying over--in that respect--if you get me). Thats what your doing on purpose, I know.

It still looks good without the black backgrounds, you should routinely not depend on the background to make sprites look good, as its meant to be transparent.

I give it a black back ground mostly on the small peices, because they are so small its hard to see the detail I put into it without going in closer. The black back ground makes the detail more visible, not everyone has eyes like me that notice things like when a train thingy on graal 2k1 that is 1 pixel off the tracks.

Also when I make small graphics like this I do not do so over a black back ground, I only put it on a black back ground after I finsh it so that people can see it better.

Yes I know, that is what I was pointing out you need to lose the dependancy on.

Remember you admitted your monitor is brighter than normal because you like to view your computer like that. Well you will naturally make things darker so it looks right to you, but it'll be too dark for everybody else. This is why you've been hounded so much in the past about your super dark gfx ;).And also when you make lighter graphics like the one above, with a lighter screen view, of course its going to be a little bit harder to see the detail. Maybe try to have some sort of definition of an outline more than you are doing currently. I am not saying that you have to use black ok, it can be just a darker shade of colors your using for the rest of it.

See the guns, you have almost some white shading along the top of the barrel, when placed over a white background I bet that is especially hard to see the shape of that weapon with your brighter-than-normal monitor. :)

Just trying to help ya. Dont have to listen, but I'm pointing that out for you so you can adjust.

ZER0_H0UR 05-06-2004 09:20 PM

I like the sword, alot. The guns are far too short, and chunky, though the detail is quite nice, good work Donny.

Monkeyboy_McGee 05-06-2004 09:39 PM

I can't view those things properly with that black background on, dunno what you're on about donald o_O

I'm simply explaining to you how your monitor settings have affected your gfx making in the past, and today I was assuming. Now your are trying to make it lighter, and as light as you do, you cant see it very well without the black background?

I dunno donald, I'm not you, but I'm just saying that a sprite image usually doesnt have to depend on whats supposed to be the transparent background area to look okay..

But as you said it does look good without the black back ground.

Crono 05-08-2004 03:39 PM

Hey "Davidspy", they look good. ;)

Curt1zzle 05-08-2004 04:24 PM

The guns...look like a bunch of goldish colors thrown together :P

The sword is OK, just needs some better shading. Was this meant to be graal-ish?

alarid0 05-08-2004 04:39 PM

Well everyone it's the best old-style gun I've seen from here and I don't think anyone could do better.
Proove me wrong if you like :)

I doubt this will prove your wrong, but it helped me be unbored (;

Crono 05-08-2004 05:34 PM

Now that you put it on a pink background, some parts of it DO look ugly. Like the golden outline on some places. x_x;

Monkeyboy_McGee 05-08-2004 05:34 PM

Urgh @ spoony pink background. In white plz :)

ZER0_H0UR 05-08-2004 05:36 PM

Pekn4lyf

Uhhh... that's not a gold outline, the trigger safety thinger continues down below the handle to the butt of the pistol.

It doesnt really matter if we could do better.

ZER0_H0UR 05-08-2004 06:12 PM

Wanna know what's sad, Farin? I looked at the list of accounts of people who were currently online and when I saw "MrCharles" I thought " Who the hell is that? "
That's sad.

Donald are you not listening? I'm just trying to give you a bit of advice and you are gonna ignore it because you think that one particular image looks "okay" without the black background?

This isnt a discussion about that one particular image, I'm just trying to tell you something your doing wrong in general.

So what your saying is I need to make my graphics always look good to anyone reguardless of the background? I dunno what your trying to tell me that I am doing wrong in general...

No, wtf. Im just saying, that when you make little sprites, that are meant to be stand-alone. You are happy with their appearance when you are viewing them with a black background. And then you show them to others on the boards etc. But then if you actually used it in-game, how they are meant to be, it will not look the same.

Im trying to tell you that only. You should try to make it look good without depending on the negative area!

Alright I understand what your saying now, I thought it looked fine without the black back ground but I just added it to look better, I wont do that anymore since I should not try to depend on it.

Scott 05-08-2004 10:22 PM

It's pretty okay.
And Alarid, I agree with Farin, even if we don't like something, doesn't mean we have to be able to do better.

Yes I agree, you do not have to be a great chef to like or dislike food.
