Scripting Lessons.
 

I'm posting this because i want to see actually how many people would like to take scripting lessons. I and other few scripters will start,or not,making some tutorials or even post examples here about how to make some kind of systems/weapons etc, so some people can learn from it. Just give your opinion so we will see if we can start this project or not.

hmm, after this is done, someone should round up all the usefull tutorials and explanations in this forum and sticky a link thread like in the levels forums, I'll start on that too

I voted yes! i am newbieish at scripting (see preload post ;) )

Personally, maybe i am looking in all the wrong places, but there seems to be a bit of a lack of resources for scripters, again, maybe i am not looking hard enuff, feel free to flame me ;) and then point me in the right direction if its my fault:D
(to clarifiy lol i want tutorials, i can't make the things, i lack the skill :) and knowledge :))

More help would be good, I'm actually busy with school and work but i'm making working on tutorials, feel free to post your tutorials too.

Some of Gscripting has changed alot since that newbie scripting bible too.

I was just saying, it was good when I first started. :p

I was thinking more on the lines of in-depth tutorials anyhow. Like a tutorial for movement and one for GUIs.

I'm actually working on a 'general tutorial' and a gui tutorial.
You could work on movement tutorial if you want.

I was thinking about writing up libraries for functions and such. Gui drawing, and other such nifty things, adding buttons, framework, should be fun!

Learning how to script basic and then maybe "medium" stuff would be a dream for me. =D

I would like to learn scripting, though its so much that I don't anderstand...

I know how hard it is, i have gone trough it with levels and im not sure if i have the will to go trough it again,

mainly because personally i dont anderstand where to start, I mean there is so much and i have NO idea of what im going to make, I mean what is a challance?

Learn the commands, what they do, what their limits are, what others have used them for, and the ideas will form. Learning the commands meaning read the documentation for basic understanding and syntax, but mostly playing around with them offline to see how diferent inputs and placement affect the outcome.

download a java syllabus and replace the word "java" with "graalscript"

a syllabus is a learning plan. it would "instruct" you as it were.

graal script is very similar to java.

Even commands.rtf says so!

Hey, i need some suggestions to add to tutorial. Any suggestions?
I did not post it yet because i'm studying alot and i think it will take some more time to finish it, but well, some ideas for new topics would be nice. :)

I think that it would be a very good idea if, along with these sort of tutorials and such, there were also public challenges that made people think about scripting and stuff. It'd be cool to see the different ways people handle problems, and would add more perspective to one's understanding of the language.

sure, but the 'teacher' would have to be someone who could actually explain things well so people could understand

Meh, I've been not wasting my time for too long now. I'm getting bored and, much worse, antsy. But anyway, I know what I'm going to do with my VIP webspace. I'm going to set up a small forum or so, where people can request tutorials and such. Also, appending Protagonist's neato suggestion, scripting challenges.

I am sad that I quit scripting in leiu of the announcement of the new scripting engine. I should've kept it up.

How is said new scripting language coming?
