TO STEFEN ONLY! My character got restarted during a server chrash.

Stefen,

On Friday, March 26, 2004, I logged on during a server chrash. When I tried logging on after some time, it went to the character create screne. Because of this, my character has been restarted against my will. I lost many good items and countless hours of exp. Needless to say, I am pretty upset about the whole thing. But, I have been told that you can restart my character to the last point that I typed, "/save". I do this very often, so if my character can be re-created to the last time I did a "/save" I will be content. Until then, I am very upset about the days of my Graal Gold subscription flying away without me being able to play with my hard-earned character. I ask that you will re-create my character (username CyberWitness) to the last time that I typed a "/save". Another thing that I would like to ask of you is that you give me back the days on my subscribtion that I have lost. I understand that this will be hard (if not imposible) for you to do. If you cannot do it, that is ok. If you can though, right now I have 218 days left. Since I lost my character on March the 26th, that means that I have lost 7 days. So if my account can be updated to that, I will be very please with your exelent service. Otherwise, just restart my character to the last "/save" poin as soon as posible.

PS: I tried getting this message to you on my other thread, but it filled up with useless spam too quickly. I hope that you can respond to me on this one soon.

Write him a forum-PM, or pm him if you catch him on GK. Opening more and more threads won't do your cause any good. Besides, in a discussion forum, you have to expect discussions ;)

zell12 04-04-2004 08:16 PM

Is your account VIP?

CyberWitness 04-05-2004 05:26 AM

Ok, to the people who have posted on this thread so far, I tried to make another thread so that I could clear up all the spam. I thank you that you are not posting useless messages, but I ask that no one beside Stefen will post on this thread from now on. But in respons to what has been posted, I have written him a forum PM and I intend on talking to him if I ever see him on. Also, if you wouldn't mind, if you see him on would you mind asking him to check the Graal Bugs forum for me? And no, I do not have VIP membership. And if this bug isn't fixed, I'll regret getting any membership at all. To end, I'd just like to say two things. 1. I'm only trying to get a bug fixed. Don't be telling me that when I payed for membership it ment that I payed for bugs that won't be fixed. That's what this forum is for, bugs. Not discussions. If you feal like you must talk to me about this subject, please post on my other thread, I'm still checking that one. 2. I started this thread as a personal message to Stefen. Please don't post if you are not him. Thanks.

Uhm, no. This is a public forum.

You apparently turned down my offer for help.

Nope. Any forum is for discussions. That is kind of the definition of a forum.

Then you broke the forum rules.

Thanks to the unbelievable grade of hightech that the forum consists of, it is able to display the name of a poster next to the post itself! Therefore, you do not need to sign your posts with your account name! Is that not great? :)

Ok Loriel...

Ok, if you want to try to make me look bad anyway you can, then fine, go ahead. But I'm not going to let you say a bunch of stuff about me without me responding. So, I'll answer everything that you posted with a reasonable answer, then maybe you'll see that I'm only trying to fix a bug and start a big debate about nothing. 1. My definition of spam is messages that don't have anything to do with the subject of the thread in quesiton. You last post didn't have much to do with my asking Stefen for help. Instead, it was just you buchering up my posts to make me look bad.
2. I understand that this is a public forum, but I'm just trying to get ahold of Stefen the only way I know of. I can't stop you from posting, but can we stick to the subbject instead of making each other look bad please?
3. What offer for help? You mean when you said that because I made an angry face that you should help me if you have time after school? Come on, be serious.
4. What's this forum called? 2002 Bugs. It's reserved for reporting bugs on Graal Kingdom. If you want to debate something, go do it on another forum. Once again, I know that I can't stop people from posting, and that's alright. But I'm only trying to inform Stefen of my problem. That's it.
5. I don't know what forum rules you're talking about. I know this is a public forum, but it's used for reporting bugs. And since I can't get ahold for Stefen any other way, why can't I use the forums to get his attention?
And 6. I know that the forums atomatically post your signature, but I wrote this as a business letter. I'm a customer who's upstet about this state of the product. So I thought it would be more official to sign it. Is there anything wrong with that? If it bugs you that much, then fine, I won't sign from now on. But if you ask me, you just added that accusation in just to try to make me look bad. So cut it out.
If you are going to post more, Loriel, please don't let it be another, "Oh look at this! He signed his message! So je's dumb and I'm smarter!" king of things. You have good points, I know what you're talking about, and I also know that you must think that everything I say is wrong. But please stop trying to bucher my messages to make me look bad.

Most posts in your thread were indeed related to your original post, or other posts in the thread.
It is usually the job of the moderation to decide what is spam and what is not, and when debating a topic you should just focus on the discussion instead of labelling other posts as spam.

You last post didn't have much to do with my asking Stefen for help.
It was a valid response to another post. It might be slightly off topic, but the point of a forum thread is to develop, and I only reacted to your post, and you now react again.

I do not understand what is wrong with answering a post piece for piece. It is more structured and has, as far as I know, been the preferred form of answering quoted material since like ever.
I do not think that I am taking the things I respond to out of context.

Well, if you post in a public forum you are basically asking for feedback. I think you are now aware that there is the option to send a private message to a forums user.

As I said I am only responding to previous posts. It is your aggressive posting that is leading the thread away from its original topic.

3. What offer for help? You mean when you said that because I made an angry face that you should help me if you have time after school? Come on, be serious.
Satrek told you to contact me, I posted that I would help you if I found the time, but I do not think you realized that.
I am serious. I am spending a lot of my free time to help people on GK, and although there are many cases where just nothing can be done due to lack of logs or other "evidence", I do think I am usually quite helpful.

4. What's this forum called? 2002 Bugs. It's reserved for reporting bugs on Graal Kingdom.
If you want to interprete it as strictly, then you are abusing this forum for personal requests for helps and to contact other folks. You are hardly reporting a bug.
Quote:

If you want to debate something, go do it on another forum.
No. It is a forum. It is meant to debate bugs. It is meant for communication.
Quote:

5. I don't know what forum rules you're talking about.
That, of course, is a wonderful position to start an argument with.
There is an announcement forum which contains threads in which the super moderators post the rules.

And 6. I know that the forums atomatically post your signature, but I wrote this as a business letter. I'm a customer who's upstet about this state of the product.
But this medium is very unlike letters. It is a discussion platform, not a messaging service. To write business letters, you should use email at least, and as Stefan does not use email you might want to use the support center. URL anyone?

So I thought it would be more official to sign it.
With a nickname, sure :p

But if you ask me, you just added that accusation in just to try to make me look bad. So cut it out.
Might be. I was perhaps exaggerating but my point was something along the lines of how you attempt to sound more official than the rest of us ;)

Please do not put quotes in my mouth.
This was not my intention, I am not trying to make you look bad, and I am not attacking your intelligence.

Don't know if this still works.. but

This is the best way to Contact Stefen , in my experiences.

Otherwise.. you need to understand, this is a public forum, and that is a very 'aged-of-rules' person your arguing with.. your statements hold no arguement over his logical, welly stated, grammericly correct, correct statements... sorry.

Dach 04-07-2004 06:21 AM

  • creating multiple threads of the same intent/topic when one is not old, is spamming
  • Other people asking for more information on your problem is not spam, they may be able to help you
  • Stefan and Unix are usually hard to reach, you should be open to help from a lower admin
  • Loriel is your best bet in getting your character restored for the sole reason that he can do it, and has been very active in such matters lately
  • please separate your paragraphs with an extra enter, tis rather hard to read a large block of text like that ;)

this is constructive critisism, take it as just that nothing more

He he he he :p . did anyone else laugh to the reply loriel made? maybe is just me :o

CyberWitness 04-07-2004 10:22 PM

Look. I'm sorry if I got a little upset about the way some people responded to my posts. My charater got restarted. I'm upset. Who wouldn't be? So I appolgize if I took some replies a little personally. Once again, I know that you all are making good points. And once again, It's just not very encouraging to see my posts be taken apart and chritisized. Although I know that all the answers to what I've posted have meaning in them. So please, forgive me if I'm getting a little edgy. I don't think I'll bother posting much more, but I will follow along and try what you all say I should do to get this problem fixed.

Like I've said, I know that this is a public forum and that people are going to discuss it. But it's just upsetting to see my attempt to fix my character turn into a quoting battle (if you know what I mean). So I'll stop all this fighting and just try to listen to your suggestions. (See? I used an extra enter to separtate my paragraphs, Dach! ;) ) I'm going to end this pointless bickering and just listen. As the Bible says, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry." - James 1:19. So go on guys, I'm listening! :)

osrs 04-08-2004 03:15 PM

He needs Stefen help! :p

Lance 04-08-2004 08:26 PM

Using the magic of http://forums.graal2001.com/forums/images/sendpm.gif, you could have avoided all of this hassle!

I'll note that you should attempt to contact Loriel, Jagen, or myself before attempting to contact Stefan.

Also noteworthy: you don't just get to come on the forums and make all kinds of rules for a thread, and then expect people to follow them. You are no moderator, sir. :)
