Proper RP names?

Can i still punish people for not having proper RP names? I've had 3 people so far, who didn't got 'em, and are disobeying my order to change them, and i can't punish them 'cuz of right limits.

No. What do you think this is? This is Pirates governed by Mark. It's not CP governed by me. [sarcasm] I spoiled you. Now you've gained this ridiculous idea that kingdoms are ment for RPing ;) [end sarcasm]

Yes, it's ridiculous to SAY it. But it's not ridiculous to HAVE it. Everyone has a name whether you like it or not.

uh, Mr. Darkblade, that maybe cause your rp name could be more, rpish.

Its not about having leet rp names that have 1000 sylibles, but about not having names like 'I »-{¯`v´¯}-» *****ERS!!!' etc, is not an rp name. nor is 'Blood Death Stalker'.

I think rp names are a good idea. :)

Darkblade is a fine name for Pirates (just kind of simple). I don't think he's one though, is he?

Also, RP names are NEEDED for RPing. So don't sound so unsure saying you "think" they're a good idea :)

I know they're good for RPing. Also, it disgusts me when people go around saying stuff like "how much 4 ur RoT", then call another player "dad" who is really only 3 years older than them IRL. Do you see why I have that "All or nothing" attitude? It's scary... I wouldn't want to call some other guy my age "Daddy"... nor refer to a lady around my age as "Mommy"... (Maybe "mami" if I knew her well enough and I took on some weird different attitude, but never "Mom")

lololloolllmfsmgfsgsaggg
If people were to go absolutely CRAZY about strict roleplaying, then your name wouldn't really be important unless the subject had told you it.
Think about it, if you meet a stranger on the street, you don't automatically know his name is *Bob, and he doesn't have, in big gold words, "*Bob*" floating about his feet, does he? ;)

But yes, proper names is good. And another thing that shouldn't really be allowed in the kingdoms, more for a personal reason on my behalf really, is those names with stupid-ass symbols instead of real letters. For instance, instead of the O in bob, you'd have B¤b, and instead of the B in bob, you'd have ß, so it'd be ߤß. It just looks damned stupid, and half the time you can't read what their names are x_x

Think about it; in real life, people can't change their face by saying /sethead 14. In real life, you can't just go around and kill someone, and if you die you won't come back (as far as i'm aware of)

Wtfs, yes you can, i do it all the time

And remember, RP is meant to be semi-realistic, otherwise we'd all be going around flying and being able to walk through walls and stuff, and you'd have a character that could eat the universe with his magical spork.
And doesn't it just enrich the RP if you have to ask people's names rather than just looking at their screenname and going "o hi jeff :)"?

Yes, but the faces here aren't as detailed, so that's why names are important to recognize people.

Yeah that's a good point, but it isn't really relevant ;)
Of course the name would be a good way of recognising that player, but it doesn't mean to say that your character automatically knows what another guy's character is called ;)

Having an RP name as your nickname does NOT mean everyone else has to RP that they know what that person's name is. It's more like official papers (like a birth certificate) to show who the person is. Or it's like an ID card. Yes, of course, needless to say (go back to RPing 101 if you don't already know this), you should ask for someone's name in RPing if you have no met them. I usually refer to most people as "Adventuruer", "Traveler"...etc. as that is what a character would call the player in an RPG, and it also makes sense since I'd imagine most players as being someone with clothing to handle lots of journies and holding some equiptment with them (like a sack on their bag...for adventuring also)... The only people I do show recognition to are people such as kingdom leaders since they would be the well-known ones around the world (though it is VERY possible to have a king, prince, etc. that noone has ever seen the face of, not even in paintings and such).

MarkB 03-31-2004 10:13 PM

Yes, all that is required for names is a proper first and last name. Sorry to Ziro, but this is a GAME.
