Sound Files
Question, hope I posted in the right folder.
My server Dark Diamond just released a radio. Nothing new, just 4 or 5 channels with different music etc on each with a different DJ on each. I remember hearing long ago that music was legal on ones server if it was a remix. Obviously copyrighted music should not be allowed, but remixes are ok aren't they? Another thing, whats up with having to place sounds on your website and using streaming audio. Do the other servers do this? It is a huge burden. Any responses would be great. |
Remixes are copyrighted by the remix artist, and the original song writer.
They are not allowed to be downloaded off the server. |
No music files are allowed.

The hell? So you cant have any music what-so-ever playing on graal? What if you make it yourself? @_@;

Well, I made a .zip players can download themselves if they want. But I kept the sounds for a flute instrument on the server..I made them myself with Noteworthy Composer..should be okay, ne? n.n

You can put them on other hosts, just you're not allowed to have them in file manager.
|
Weird
Alright. Well I will be getting our .com site up and will have all the music we offer in a zip but there are many remixes out there in midi form that are for the public. Especially a lot of the stuff off of vgmusic or other known midi sites. I swear I was told by a global before that remixes were allowed. But you are a global so you win.
Is there anyway to get permission then? Music is a big part of gaming, you cannot just take the right to have music in a game away. Especially if we get permissions from the remixers or make the stuff ourselves. Music is part of the experience. Now I understand the music on the file manager and I will make sure anything we do have is on the site. I still dont get why we can't have them in our manager though, to make all music and sounds be heard via a website, if people dont choose to download them that streaming audio would be overloaded wouldn't it? |
Graal cannot risk to be held responsible, or be bothered to take care of the legal stuff, to have files they own not the copyright to on their servers.
|
Odd
Then how do other servers have music? Like Era or Valikorlia? or any number of servers? Do I have to get permission from Stefan or something? What is the process?
I understand and agree with the logic behind what you are saying, but music should not be banned for something like that. Music is a crucial part of any game. Not to mention good sounds and graphics are important as well. Just as Zell said, who is to say somebody made their graphics? I just wish there was a way we could do this. Especially if I can get the remixers to sign acknowledging that they are ok with it. Or like I said, the freeware sites. |
I doubt there is some sue happy organization such as the RIAA behind graphics.
Just host your music on your website and have players download it. |
Yes
We intend to.
I didn't know the RIAA cared about old video game midi remixes from the days of nes/snes though :-D I hope you are right though, a graphics version of the RIAA would be a little to much but you never know nowadays. Alright, well thanks Loriel, hope I didn't annoy you to much now. I just cant get a straight answer about music no matter where I go. |
