Laming Aura

Is it just me, or does this spell need to be SERIOUSLY toned down ? It needs to either be like 1 tile around the caster or do something else. It's waaaay too powerful.

On example of its lameness, Knumb sits in bomb trade, waits for me to enter, then casts it and chases me around, knowing i cannot get close.

This is REALLY annoying. Something needs to be done.

Goodday.

UNPTWOPWINNER 02-04-2004 04:29 AM

Let me post, once again, how to beat a flaming aura user.
Go to the top, or bottom, of the level. Face down if you're at the top, face up if you're at the bottom. Cast icestorm, run to the opposite side of the room, change direction, cast icestorm again

Repeat...person using flaming aura either chases you through your icestorm or stands there getting hit. Either way....they're dead. :o

I have no spells, sir.

--Chris-- 02-04-2004 04:55 AM

No, it doesn't need to be toned down. It's meant to be just a little stronger than your average spell and personally I prefer ice storm :) I'm practically immune to laming aura, I don't know how many others have high fire resist but even without it it's quite easy for you to also cast a spell, run away or kill the person. I mean..they have to get close to hit you, cast a few large snow storms at them and if that doesn't kill them then you can still attack them making the odds more than even.

Crint_Eastawood 02-04-2004 04:55 AM

Its been toned down once and it took a major hit, no more, get fire resist!

Actually, it's already been toned down twice. (possibly even three, I don't remember)

Nappa 02-04-2004 05:18 AM

I still think it's way too powerful.

I use an RoW and such so my magic resist is down, along with having 0 fire resist.

Now adays the AC is so high I can't even hit people as well. -26 is just too low. I have no spells.

All these people have to do is cast this spell and chase me, and I die. And i've seen it happen to many people, and everyday.

Knumb 02-04-2004 05:24 AM

Epitome Case: This is the reason that there are battle and peaceful modes.

The - magic resist on RoW and RoS helps to balance out the items. Balor gets few bonuses, and Flaming Aura helps counter that.

Satrek2000 02-04-2004 10:31 AM

Then get yourself some spells ;)
Also, shouldn't the RoW allow you to run fast enough to escape?

WanDaMan 02-04-2004 03:13 PM

No magic / Pking in any of the tables.

Won't work. They cast spell, grab their laming ice dagger of ogma+10 dam+75, and when you want to cast icestorm, they hit you, spell fails, and you're down to 1/4th of your HP because of the damned dagger.

Yes, any professional Aura user knows that you need to prep a bow or dagger with EWs so you can stop people from casting spells.

GoZelda 02-04-2004 03:42 PM

Only succesful terrain spell would be magic bullet or bullet storm, but because aura lamers have 20-60 magic resist it barely hurts

Let's take a passage from the preachings of Satrek to counter this pathetic exucse:
"Really now, if pking is your way of living then play classic."
This applies mainly to those using laming aura, but it also can be directed at some of you complaining about it, and also complaining about the High AC that's cropping up. The only reason you guys are complaining is because you can no longer "pwn" people whenever you feel like it, and instead are getting "pwned" by even lamer people =x

Yes. Well...no. My primary suggestion would be to make all the levels inside towns and their buildings no-PK zones (otherwise the PKers would just lurk outside doors, waiting for you to come out/try to get in). Another suggestion would be to make the only pvp mode kingdom mode and only those actively within kingdoms can use them o_O Then people can only kill other people if it's in the name of their kingdom, and RP, putting an end to the should-be-playing-classic people. And then of course, if there are some persistant non-RPers who simply can't survive without spending every 5 minutes killing each other, they can just damned well go and live in the duelling arena.

:megaeek:

Nappa 02-04-2004 10:14 PM

I agree. Trade rooms should be no pk.

And I have 3.8 speed. But, I don't want to have to always leave the trade room every time i go in there.

GoZelda 02-04-2004 10:20 PM

Flaming Aura's great for starters though, it made my level from lvl.4 to about lvl.10, then cast wounds power was lowered, i switched to Govannon on advice of my friends and bla.

MarkB 02-05-2004 12:02 AM

Someone please make like 30 more threads on this spell. Please, there hasnt been enough threads.

Yup, no doubt that it helps people kill monsters, and that's a good thing especially since balor suckos everywhere else...but people are complaming (:P) about it being used against them.

Nothing will be done it's graal kingdoms, stefan hardley checks here so it's pointless (no offence)... Best forum PM him about it, but keep making a thread about it so the point gets through :p

Lol the next thread will be someone saying about how stefan's working on bigger things like Graal 3d and 3.1 XD

WanDaMan 02-05-2004 08:15 PM

Havn't we seen them before like last year? :(

Khallos_2k2 02-05-2004 08:29 PM

Flaming Aura is fine.
Balor users get horrible penalties, like lower luck, health regen, and spellpoint regen.
The only reason people dislike flaming aura is because it bypasses their incredibly leet AC which they spent ages buying loads and loads of EAs so that they can be invincible, rendering armour effectively useless.

Yes, but the lag isn't a prerequisite for making it "laming".

So you're saying this is only a big problem for those with high Armour Class. I'd have to argue against that, as it is untrue.

And for those who don't have high ac and complain, like myself?

No, i think he's saying that the only people who are getting annoyed by flaming auras are those who have strived to be leeto powerplayers with 3453434 AC. They don't seem to like the fact that they aren't completely invincible :(

That's exactly what I am saying.
I don't have a high AC and i don't complain. If you don't want to be "lamed", go off B-mode.
If you don't have a high AC, give it time and eventually we'll all have stupidly high ACs which mean that no monsters can hit us at all, and won't GK be fun then?

GoZelda 02-06-2004 06:25 PM

If you have low AC it sucks even more. You can get killed by weapons and Flaming Aura.

Lol this would be true were it not for the fact that low-AC people don't go in Bmode due to harrassment.

Khallos_2k2 02-06-2004 07:56 PM

And GENERALLY (GENERALLY) the people with low ACs are the RPing people who play Kingdoms to have fun, not to pwn everything in sight without getting hit once. For example, where's the challenge in taking on t rexes with AC -30 so that they can't hit you? There's no tactics: you stand there, slash/spin around non stop no matter how many surround you, you kill them all, wow that was fun.
Also, they spend more time RPing and having fun than others who dungeon non stop and get loads of leet items as a result of having no real fun. I know people will say that they have fun with their leet items (mostly due to PKing), but it isn't the same.

Yeah...unfortunate that GK's development slanted steeply towards items and stuff instead of RP =/

Khallos_2k2 02-06-2004 09:03 PM

Yeah, which is a pity considering GK is meant to be a roleplaying server.
But, its been classicised, and now PKing is everywhere. In a way, it's just a better looking, less linear classic server.

GoZelda 02-06-2004 10:02 PM

Classic was better, there were more interesting houses etc.

graaliholic 02-07-2004 06:32 AM

Flaming aura is fine. And if you lag from it, you really shouldn't play GK, since it's really a simple spell as far as graphics are concerned.

gravator 02-07-2004 07:38 AM

This could be the best time as any to tone more than just a spell or two down, the clensing pool doesn't work so folks think twice about getting prepped weapons and wishing to trade later.

The AC should have a limit and only have weapons blessed, that would even alot of players out since the average is +5 for a blessing.

No more prep weapons, EA's and whatever, stat potions can be made easy to get, This lets other new players get silver plate mail and already have good defence from that.

Since spells are lost after anyone hits you (yea, even Pmoders cause a distration and you lose your spell) Fixing this game up just right is all that's needed now to make it more RP centered and to stop all the PKing madness that cropped up since awhile ago.

This would also even out the way pricing on items is done, Mithril would be valuable still, but not impossible to obtain without 700+ IWD's (which annoyingly some jerks seem to laugh at your offer and demand more, just say your not selling the darn thing for gosh sake!) Berwean would have almost equal stats to gold plate, but still be better for the fact of it's harder to get and it has better armour and speed+1 bonuses.

So that's all i have on this topic, Any thoughts to add?

Splke 02-07-2004 09:24 AM

Flaming Aura is funny... and it may be abit overpowered, but its just a self-defense-ish prayer... also, it shows all those dual row ogma blessers whos boss :)

But if you lag from Aura, turn off light effects... and... unno, get a new computer you *******.

What do spells have to do with weapons, and why should they be toned down?

Not as such... you can use EWs to get your wc up, without prepared weapons only your phys-level can really boost it up, so the strong players will still have an advantage, and the physically weak ones can't even improve a weapon for their defense.

What do stat potions have to do with the protection from a silver platemail? And they give quite a bonus, so they should be rare to some extend.

I agree that the system should be tuned to make spellcasters and fighters equal. But I doubt removing prepped weapons will improve RPing - pkers will not rp, they will just do what they can to have what they call fun and annoy others.
