light effects (background color)

how do you do it?

tlf288 12-11-2003 04:10 AM

i think you want the seteffect command.

This was posted by Blitz_Hunter in a thread awhere I asked this..
pretty much just setcoloreffect #,#,#,#;

// NPC made by Stefan Knorr
if (created) {
setimg light2.png;
dontblock;
}
//#CLIENTSIDE
if (playerenters) {
setcoloreffect 1,1,1,0.99;
drawaslight;
}

Ok , where setcoloreffect is simply change those numbers to the light color you would like. Simply follow the R,G,B,A codes. This is just the simple light as in Spark's level you mentioned. For backpals..

//#CLIENTSIDE
if (playerenters)
setbackpal dusk1.png;

You can change the dusk1.png to any others that are in the graal2001\levels\backpals folder.

A) he wants a backround colour, setcoloreffect only changes the image the NPC that it's in is using... He wants to make the level have a tint, that command is seteffect red,green,blue,alpha ;.

B) setbackpal; doesn't work anymore, it was removed.

jrm_iii 12-11-2003 04:27 AM

what #s would i use to make it a bit darker?

You would want it to have a black tint... So you would use no colours... But you don't want it to be completely black, you want to see through it... So you would lower your opacity... or alpha...

Keep in mind... This command as well as other commands like it (setcoloreffect, changeimgcolors, etc) only recognize numbers between 0 and 1.

Oops. Foolish me...

I seem to be thinking backwards this afternoon... @_@;;

So, if all of the colours make white... How would you get black, which is the opposite of white?

Look's pretty straight forward, and bland. Try doing something new and original with the tiles... Experiment... Also, the lights on your plants are a bit intense... ;)

I don't really know why the plants are glowing to begin with... But I think it should still go lower... perhaps to .1 or so...

jrm_iii 12-11-2003 05:02 AM

even with 1, i can barely see the lights

how do i make em flicker?

Are you implying that you deserve credit from others, including me, for telling some people how to use seteffect? You aren't the only source to learn these things from. ;P

The easiest way to do that would be by making the alpha channel change randomly between two values that are fairly close to each other... You could also change the zoomeffect randomly between two values close to each other...

jrm_iii 12-12-2003 06:40 AM

hm....

all i know how to do is use the while command with playerx and setzoomeffect...

but... it works
