Granted Spells

Heres a new suggestion:

Maybe certain rings/staffs/talismans could grant certain skiils/sp[ells while equipped. Some of these spells could be item only and not learned via book/scroll.

Sounds good - as long as these spells are not too strong, i.e. don't give too many advantages, and the items aren't too rare. Say, a craftable amulett which requires a great deal of gems and gives the ability to, say, cut down a tree with one hit, would be okay. Event bracers, giving the wearer a spell which deals 300 damage a second for 10 seconds in the while level would be wrong. You get my point.

Wasn't the RoT supposed to give a "stealth" skill? And will reflect missile ever work?

I think what Denori is trying to say is that, like you know how you get flaming aura from Balor, well lets say you bought a ring, that costs like maybe 50k in store, it would give you the flaming aura spell...

exactly, but not flaimg aura, mor elike talisman of ice storm- itll cost 30k and it grants the icestorm spell.

No, it makes no sense if you could just learn the spell and wands already come with pre-defined spells to cast.

I don't like this idea very much. Rings can attune you to spells, but not grant them. Wands do that.

It does. In CF, it allows you to see in dark places (such as after casting darkness a few times), and if it's as dark as it can get, you can't be seen at all (the ultimate all-time lvl strategy for Brigid next to peace, just punch whatever to death while it can't see you). Since GK doesn't have light effects (day/night spell would SOOO be abused, it gets abused on CF :P), and since GK monsters don't have the same kind of detection code (maybe they do, but the squares are so much bigger), it's completely useless.

Satrek2000 11-20-2003 03:19 PM

Abuse is most likely the biggest problem with new additions... but then again, as it is now, night vision, light and nightfall are completely pointless (as are consecrate, cancellation, cult monster and holy servant, just for different reasons). Also, I don't think DianCecht's glowing has any effect either.

A little more on topic: I don't think items giving common spells would do any good - as was said before, you can learn them easily and wands give them already at certain conditions. Maybe it could be applied to some special abilities, or that you can only gain certain bready with the gloves of the baker, or certain weapons with the bracers of the smith or whatever. Making these rare, but not too powerfull would add diversity. Just a thought. I doubt it'll happen.

Speaking of wands, on CF, they're all different levels, so for example, you could find a wand of magic bullet lvl 63, instead of only lvl 1. Why are all the wands only minimum level? :|

this could work...
casting Darkness would create a dark aura around you (say a CM of dark on the screen and it stays around you). It gives you a temp AC making monsters miss sometimes, but so do you unles you have a RoN (ring of nightvision) or something of that sort.

Light would work the same way, except it's an aura of light around you instead of dark, it illuminates what's in front of you better, but it grants NEGATIVE ac to you AND the monsters.

in this way, a superdarkness (idiot casting darkness on one spot) couldn't be made, and casting superlight (same as above)
can't be done either.

the deitys should be classified good/evil. in this way, if you have a good deity, you would use Holy Servant and it would be a type of avatar for that god, but if you have Cult Monster, it would create that deity's Monster-like avatar.

stealth should add AC to your character. because when you use stealth, you are harder to see, thus harder to hit.

Stuff like light, darkness, nightfall, dark vision etc would probably be put to work once proper night/day/lighteffects are included in the engine, the next version I believe.

mmhmm... *remembers the whole "there were gonna be forts" argument* (which I'm working on... it's an image.
